PS3 News \ Final Fantasy XIII held back on PS3 due to Xbox360
During the DKS3713 event, Square Enix director Motomu Toriyama yesterday told that the US and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII will be held back on the Playstation 3 due to development on the Xbox360 Version
In a behind the scenes video produced by Square Enix's Tesuya Nomura, Toriyama reconfirmed the development plans for Final Fantasy XIII:
We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later.
The complete PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be hitting Japan in 2009, while the PS3 gamers in the United States and Europe will have to wait until the Xbox360 port is complete.
According to Nomura, his team didn't receive Xbox360 development kits until a few days ago, so depending on how long it takes the Square Enix team to port the title to the Xbox360, the US & Europe may not receive the title until 2010
As Noruma's final comment, he stated that the PS3 version will not suffer due to the Xbox 360 development.
We aren't going to change any specifications because of the multi-platform announcement. Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version.

The amusing thing is that the vast majority of those who say they won't buy the game out of protest will do so anyway and they know it (so does Square). Even those who do stand by their protest won't even make a dent in FFXIIIs sales.
Square are in the business to entertain people and make money, not to please a small minority of PS3 fanboys.

The port shouldn't take too long really. The Ps3 has a better processor, the 360 has a better graphics chip. They are fairly equivalent in power so the 360 version wont have to be dumbed-down. The only issue is how big the Ps3 version is and how many disks the 360 version will span.
