PlayStation 2 Price Cut
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced a price cut for the PlayStation 2 in the US from USD $129 (AUD $186) to USD $99 (AUD $142), as of April 1 2009. The price cut is yet to be confirmed for Australia, where the console still retails for a recommended price of AUD $199. Presumably Sony Computer Entertainment Australia will confirm the price cut tomorrow if it is to be global.
John Koller wrote on the PlayStation Blog "this new price means that more people than ever will be able to join in on the fun that so many of you PlayStation 2 owners have been enjoying for years, which means new families will become part of the platform’s record-breaking install base." 2009 marks the 9th year that the PS2 is on sale in the US. The lower price will no doubt extend that even further, and allow the console to increase it's catalogue to over 2000 games.
"With the original PlayStation and now PlayStation 2, we’ve proven that consumers can rely on our platforms for their gaming and entertainment needs for at least a decade. This speaks to the technology and features that were packed into PlayStation 2 from the beginning, as well as to the ongoing support the platform enjoys from the publishing and retail communities and, well, all of you fans" says Koller.
This appears to be the big announcement that Sony promised for March 31, surely they would want to share that with everyone wouldn't they? We'll have information about the price cut in Australia as it comes to hand.
