The original PlayStation 3 included an option to install another operating system giving the console a unique feature that other consoles could not do. This gave many users the potential to use the PS3 as a basic computer or as a single node in a supercomputing cluster. On April 1st, a serious day indeed, Sony removed the feature through a firmware update - 3.21. Effectively aligning it alongside the slims that when released, came without this unique feature. Sony stated that the change was made because of 'security concerns'. Geohotz known for his iphone exploits has boasted on his blog that a firmware update based on an older 3.15 version has restored functionality of Linux on the PS3; potentially even giving it to the Slim as well. He has stated previously that he would work on bringing back otherOS functionality and it seems he has come through. Though he claims to have worked a solution, he hasn't posted the firmware online, and the only source of this proof is through a simple youtube video. This installation, apparently does not require you to open up the PS3 to get this hack to work. www.youtube.com/ Still, for those who have messed around with Linux on the PS3 and would like to continue to do so, it's a good sign that you might have an option in the future.

If a CFW came out with a feature that I wanted in even the slightest way, I'd download and install it immediately. Just you wait til the day where CFW is common and trusted- You won't believe we ever put up with Sony's junk.
