News \ Lost Planet 5GB Installation?
Many of you may have cringed at the thought of having to install 5GB of data onto your PS3 when you popped in Devil May Cry 4 for the first time, which took over 20 minutes to complete.
Well, Capcom, the gaming company whose games have for years enjoyed critical and commercial success, have done it again! This time, Lost Planet looks set to be the victim of horrendous installation time.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, which comes to the PS3 a long time after it launched on the 360, may also enjoy a 20-minute install time before it can be played, claims PS3Style.com
Capcom claimed that, with DMC 4, the install time decreased installation time that would otherwise be high because of slow Blu-Ray drive load speeds.
While Capcom’s justification is fair and understandable, it contradicts the point of console gaming. Long load times are meant to be restricted to PC’s and the PSP (had to put that in there).

What happened to that whole plan that Microsoft had of allowing games to be played before install had finished? Wasn't that the deal with Halo 2 or something?

Unless this post was sarcasm with a hint of "pulling your leg humor" then yes, you're uninformed/misinformed, as not ALL games on PS3 need to be installed before you can play them, i only know of 2 games that need installing before they need to be played, DMC4 and this game, Lost Planet. A whole 20 mins!!!!??? Thats like..1200 seconds! Disaster, not buying the game now!!!

That sounded like a fanboy troll comment just a tad, this is a fair summary of both versions, PS3 version of DMC forces you to wait 20 mins to install, after the 20 mins the whole game runs fast and smoothly without any probs. 360 version, no 20 min install time but during the entire game we have to suffer from the frequent screen tearing throughout the game... what would you rather, wait 20 mins for a perfect game, or get straight into it knowing you have to put up with screen tearing? The question answers itself i think.

Don't forget, i think this is personally a good trade-off for 360's multiple disc issue. Not loved by everyone, but think about multiple discs, getting scratched, interrupting gameplay.

Rumour has it that this makes the loading times of Lost Planet "lightning fast".
If so, I would be willing to wait a few minutes for it to install rather than wait a few minutes in-game.
