Laptop Help!!!

So after all I'm not going to be getting a MAC until end of next year for a Graduation present. So to last me my two years at tafe and grade 11 and 12 so i need to get a under 600 - 900 laptop. I have narrowed it down to 3.

First, HP Mini-Note 1001TU 10.2" PC

I saw the DSE ad and though hey that's sweet so i reasearched and saw it was good that a choice.

Second, Asus Eee PC 1000H

I think the black one but I need someone to explain if Vista is worth it with Windows 7 around the corner can I upgrade my current XP laptop i want (first one) to it?

I would always recommend spending the most you can on a computer with a budget - it generally gives you faster and more useful features the more you go up.

That being said, what are you looking for specifically? I can find a 15.4" Laptop that will be much better than the EEE PC for $899, but are you looking for a small one?

The $899 is a 15.4", 1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo laptop with 1G DDR2 ram, 160GB HD and I believe it's a choice between XP Pro and Vista Pro in the HP 550. That's compared to the 60GB, 10.1", 1.6Ghz Atom HP Mini-Note laptop.

You can upgrade either XP or Vista to Windows 7 when it comes around, so no big deal there.

i have an eeepc its great in my opinion it has an atom processor, 1GB ram and i think 160 GB of memory

i have the 900H with an 8.9 Inch screen. I paid $600 in officeworks.

128mb video ram (shared with actual ram)
only 60gb hard drive (but i have a 250gb portable hard drive that i use)
Windows Professional
AVG Anti-virus program (which is free anyway)

Yeah the best thing to do would be to check out a comp store and personally test each laptop on your list to test the keyboard, screen, specs and make sure they are suitable. Bring some high-def mp4's in a usb stick and see if the display models can run them... If you think its a good idea

got mine for 600 bucks on release they have increased in price now

really good option for a super portable

Pros.
light
sexy
awesome touchpad
easy to use
ultra portable
built in sd slot

cons
not overly powerfull
keyboard a little crammed (takes a little while to get used to)
4-5 battery life
no optical drive
small hdd
really crappy speaker sound

still a heaps great option for netbook, i only use mine for web access, email, light bits and pieces

currently im running windows vista
in the past ive used ubuntu eee (now called eeesy peasy)
and windows xp (preinstalled when i bought it

i would defently recomend for people on the go... but u need to have a good desktop for any high end computing

i was gunna buy one of these first gen models bout 3 years ago on a holiday in singapore

dont know if they sell em out of singapore, but from wat i say 3 years they were awesome so i imagine there even better now the 9 in model looks sweet
