I managed to slip Surf's Up (American version) through. I told the JB dude I bought it from EB Games (which I did!)

I'll give it another try at a few stores. See which ones allows it, and which ones are tight***es ...
They should allow it ... PS3 games are region-free, EB sometimes sell them ... and most people have HDTVs anyway.
