Playstation 3 Hardware \ Playstation Eye - Functional or de Funcked?

Im thinking of this for christmas. What are ppls thoughts regarding its future functionality and also as a video creation tool. Its quite cheap but I worried that something better might be just around the corner. The game doesn't really thrill me all that much - more the camera itslef and possibilities of its future.
Ideally the thing could take photos and videos and be able to be used for video chat etc... or am I a bit over enthusiastic.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
BTW I am also thinking the Go-cam for psp could be good

I'd get it but i'd only use it as a webcam for my ps3 
As for the go-cam, its a 1MP camera but its still a pretty good attachment for the sexy PSP

Mmm well both are like $70 bucks and Im tempted to get one for christmas (damn I hope RatedY2J isnt reading this!!!) as the ps2 eye thing was great. I'd say it woukd be good for singstar when it comes out - but I hope they dont include the PS3 eye version 2 with that!!

I have the PSEye that came with the EOJ. I have also got Aqua Vita and Operation Creature Feature off the PSStore.
Operation Creature Feature is the most entertaining of all of the games I have tried. It is very amusing cos you have to use motion to carry on screen characters through a maze (well actually mines) and it can be very tricky but it is so fun cos you must look like a clown waving your arms around in front of the TV with not even a Wiimote in your hands.
That said, the Eye of Judgement is quite fun also, but more strategic and tricky. I thoughly enjoy getting my ass kicked by my gf.
And Aqua Vita is an aquarium for your playstation that doesnt have thaqt much interaction. You can see yourself just like a reflection in a glass tank. Some of the fish follow your finger if you point it and move it around, and you can also splash the water on top a little bit and scare the fish.
I recommend the Eye

Liam you mean the camera is motion sensitive, really? that sounds awesome I didnt know that. Oh hang on thats just a software thing isnt it. Im getting excited bout the eye now thanks guys

Good to hear man. What you gotta do is move your hands and as you move them the blurbs (the little characters) attach themselves to you and you have to carry them through the mines.
But you gotta keep moving your hand otherwise they drop off and they get caught on walls and corners and stuff.

The EyeToy is great for video chat... but its also cool with some of the EyeGames... Opperation Creature Feature & Trials of whatever its called is great entertainment value. Try playin the games with a lounge room full of people it can get rather entertaining

Hi guys,
Does anyone know whether the new PS eye can be used to play Singstar PS2 titles - or even if the old usb eye for ps2 can be plugged to your 60gb ps3 to play the old singstar eyetoy games.

Liam the new eyetoy for PS3 is able to be used in the PS3 version of singstar so you can watch yourself sing dance and carry on like a pork chop in your own TV set

well I just bought the camera by itself from Toys R Us but I am not sure the new eyetoy can play the old eyetoy games from the PS2..

Yeah, they might not have that capability. Just like how we cant play GH1 and 2 on the PS3 with our new guitars.

There's a racing game that'll take a photo of your face when you crash and show it to other plays online which is a nice little feature.
