What options do I have in the setup?
What resolution will I be able to watch Blu-ray movies if my TV only supports 480i/p 720p & 1080i ?
I noticed NBA2K7 supports 1080p HD only, can I play this game on my setup?

Do I have to check all the games before I buy one for compatability ?

In the setup screens it asks you what kind of connection you're using e.g. composite, component or HDMI.

Then it gives you a list of resolutions and you select the ones your tv supports: Pal/NTSC, 480p/i, 720p/i & 1080p/i.

Most games are 720p atm so if the tv supports it thats what it shows other wise it drops to 480p/i then to pal etc.

For example my projector does 480p/i, 720p/i & 1080i.
So I set the ps3s options to allow it to output 480p, 720p & 1080i. So the XMB, browser etc runs in 1080i, games run at 720p.

Bluray at the moment can only be shown in 1080p/i. So if your highest resolution setting is 720p it will downscale to 480p, but if you have 1080 you should be fine until they fix it in an update

720p @ 60Htz refreshes EVERY pixel on the screen 60 times a second.
1080i @ 60Htz refreshes EVERY SECOND pixel on the screen 60 times a second.
So while 1080i will have slightly better definition, 720p refreshes more pixels, more offen leading to a sharper picture especially with moving subjects on screen. And when 4-8ms refresh rates are so important to some people, you'd lose any refresh rate advantage by setting your TV to 1080i instead of 720p.

If your TV cannot handle 1080p, then the PS3 will downscale it to 720p or 480p - that is one of the problems associated with the PS3 at the moment.

All games will play no matter what the supported resolution of your TV is.

Sony Bravia Full-HD range. However there's been some clouding issues with these TVs. Otherwise, they're almost "perfect", you can get a pretty good deal right now.
