Plenty of old school styling that Jappers cant get near, and plenty of muscle from V8 engines to embarrass many.
Topher you know your stuff on 'jap crap' - but theres so much more than what you are revealing. KW on a dyno (or a badge) dont equal KW on the road. So sure you can quote a car having this many KW so a car with more KW will win - but thats not even close to comparing how cars drive/weights/diff ratios/torque, etc.
And remember a lot of these V8's are using old push rod technology, carburettors, single cams, etc. Jap cars use the most up to date technology, fuel injection, etc.
So in terms of their output for the technology used - V8's are simply awesome.

I use to own a 1993 R32 GTR. I imported it from Japan through a company and it was pretty much stock, apart the exhaust, bov, pods and drivers seat. (This was back in the day before the rules changed) I sent loads of $$$ on it, (putting a carbon fiber bonnet on it, was one of the first to have one on the Gold Coast), Bigger Turbos, Injectors, cams, etc etc etc etc
It ended up making 310kw @ Wheels. Was a real pain as every time I went out the cops pulled me over. After all this work, it seems to spend more time in the garage getting worked on as things kept going wrong. The more power I was running the more it $$ and the more time it spent getting fixed 
So I sold it and got out of that scene.
I strongly believe that the R32 is a lot better then the R33. But the only thing it doesnt have going for it, is its age. Unless everything gets replaced and done by a someone that knows what they are doing, I would stay clear.

yep those big fat whale of a car with the aeordynamics of a brick being chucked out of a truck doing 110km/h down a freeway 
the only v8 engine that would embarass anything is 7.0 litre, then again the new gtr is making just about the same (if not more) power with a 3.8litre v6 and 2 snails =]

dont know if you bothered to read any of my posts but i mentioned torque and diff ratio =] anyway torque is only a sall player in the scheme of things, key thing is POWER TO WEIGHT but then again too much power and not enough weight and my ranny in her 1999 lancer vrx would whoop it down the 1/4 becuase all te other car will be doing is wheel spinning down the track. Also fact of the matter is there was a gentlemen's agreement and jap cars were limited along with emission standards. So put on a very restrictive exhaust, air filter, drop the boost a crapload poxy intercoolers and you still have a car maki

well i have a few mates who r mechanics and they r usualy more then happy to help. and how else would you learn it unless you found some one who allready knew how to do it. and yer i have a basic knowlage of how it all works. on the track, yer, QLD raceway raceway has regular drift meets, and archerfeild sometimes

I reckon you should upgrade. I have a few mates who drive these around and.... well, old cars, they cost too much and can become very unreliable. Maybe not brand new, but newer.

cool, i ahvent been on the track (not really interested) im more into 1/4 mile so i just go to calder park when i get the chance.
good way to learn is to jump onto forums, read tech articles and just general research, once you feel confident enough, take to a buggered engine and just have fun pulling it apart etc.
I havent done too much major work to my car, biggest job i have done so far is taking the plenum off and bypassing coolant hoses under there, removing EGR etc. I put all the bolt ons on myself such as exhaust and cooler. but electronics such as my avcr elec boost controller and afc neo i gave to my mechanic to install because im not too confident with electrics and dont wanna fry my ecu
now its jsut a matter of getting my licence back and getting him to set up my boost through the rpm range (you can do that with an avcr) so im not sliding all over the road and a re-tune because my afr's are set pretty richish.. i want to lean it out abit more

Geez look how one small comment about geting a real car a steel car has caused so much controversy, i only said that to see what had happened and the outcome is quite funny, really you can not compare an old V8 to a twin turbo 6, completely different objectives as to why they were built.
Old cars are great, as they have a classic style and anyone can work on them. Jap cars are great too as so many people own them it's easy to find someone who knows something about them and can give advice and to get information on them.
Topher if your almost finished moding your car i reckon your better off sticking with it, if your just getting started on the other hand it may pay to sell it and get something newer. Go test drive a couple of cars and see which you like the look/handling/performance of first.

True the car is probably cheap, but nowadays having a car = $$$. Petrol ain't cheap like it use to be, having 6's and 8's could be more $$$ depending how you drive. If money is an issue maybe should look at something more economical like say a 4cyl that can go hard.

problem with old car (V8s) the engine may produce big HP but the handling, braking is all shot..... the chassis weighs about 12 tonnes. While in a 90s jap car even the brakes are decent, fairly light bodied and can push decent HP numbers even out of the stock internal engine..... without mucking around with the internal of a V* you aint going to get much HP out of it.....

man go for a 96 jap spec integra type r. looks better than the aussie model and goes harder! i could **** all over gts-t skylines (although i have no hope against a gt-r lol) in a naturally aspirated 4 (mind u i did have a racing computer in it so the v-tec would kick in at 3 1/2k revs)and keep up to most v8's (standard) on a straight run. but at the end of the day, you'll get booked doin that **** on the street. anyone can drive in a straight line with the foot to the floor, the real fun is on the race track and that's where the type r shines!

You are talking about forced induction engines verse naturally aspirated.
If the V configuration engine is so terrible (as is your opinion) - isnt your precious rice burner a V6?
So to even it up - how bout a twin turbo V8 verse your twin turbo V6? Sounds like a fair comparison to me then? And you know who's gonna win that.
Now yes I did bother to read your posts (unfortunately). Yeh sure you 'mention' torque and diff ratios. But you are back sprouting your horsepower dogma and only looking at engine power outputs. You should reconsider your comments about Torque. It doesnt really count huh? pffffft. Typical turbo fan boy comment that one.
So. Old school V8's - yeh sure I reckon you'd put a few to bed in your car. Im certain of a few old school V8's that will blow your doors off (you wanna talk stroker engines?).
End of the day. You are forced induction, computer engine management, all wheel drive, often twin overhead cam, lightweight, aerodynamic yadda yadda yadda - the old school V8 is old technology but lives on a diet of rice. Its performance is not that far behind you, and often capable of beating you even with all those 'shortfalls'. And you think you are 'winning'?!
