the 3 selling points of HD very important to sort the differences out if buying a TV
(from worst to best)
1.HD READY
2.HD
3.FULL HD
1. - accepts external HD information, such as an HD set top box, but downscales it to be displayed in STANDARD definition (480i) and sometimes slightly higher (540p). TOTALLY misleading advertising.. avoid. this IS NOT a high definition TV
2. - accepts all SD aswell as HD information ranging from 480i/540p/720p/1080i and displays it in high resolution (but not the full 1080 rows, so 1080i input is generally downscaled to 720). does not accept 1080p..
3. - accepts all SD and HD resolutions. including 1080p and displays it in FULL resolution. (1080 pixels high)
(thanks fd3s very true) - I used to sell TVs at retravision, and did much more than my fair share of research into them
