i've got a 66cm (26") Samsung as the bedroom TV, and there's a massive difference to my 22" PC monitor. This is the first 66cm LCD with built in HD tuner I've seen for under about $900, most 19" LCD's still go for around $500 with only an analogue tuner!

Ive got a "hd ready" lcd tv - is that the same as built in hd tuner? Or is the built in hd tuner "full hd"?

Its a great price either way!

Built in HD Turner means it has a HD Digital set top box built into the TV. This means you can pick up digital hd channels. HD ready means its able to take devices that are HD, like a HD Set top box or a PS3.

I'm yet to see a LCD TV of this size (or smaller than 37") that is a higher res than 720P. I know there are monitors that do 1080P and above, but not TV's.

For me this is a great size for a bedroom or second living area (my main TV is a 46" 1080P), or even as a main TV is a smaller living area.

Anyway, if it doesn't suit you, what do I care, just thought some might be interested.

Built in HD Tuner allows your TV to decode the High Def free to air TV signals with out the need for an external settop box. IE plug tv aerial into TV and display all digital channels including HD channels in High Def.
Built in tuner does not mean FULL HD. FULL HD refers to the native resolution of the screen, Full HD is 1080P or 1920x1080pixels. This screen is not FULL HD, it is 720P or 1366x768 pixels

the 3 selling points of HD very important to sort the differences out if buying a TV

(from worst to best)

1.HD READY
2.HD
3.FULL HD

1. - accepts external HD information, such as an HD set top box, but downscales it to be displayed in STANDARD definition (480i) and sometimes slightly higher (540p). TOTALLY misleading advertising.. avoid. this IS NOT a high definition TV

2. - accepts all SD aswell as HD information ranging from 480i/540p/720p/1080i and displays it in high resolution (but not the full 1080 rows, so 1080i input is generally downscaled to 720). does not accept 1080p..

3. - accepts all SD and HD resolutions. including 1080p and displays it in FULL resolution. (1080 pixels high)

(thanks fd3s very true) - I used to sell TVs at retravision, and did much more than my fair share of research into them

Yeah its an LCD tv. I just got it 2 weeks ago. Not sure of the model number (will check when I get home). Its 66cm.

We dont have great reception out here. The guy who was installing it said there would be no difference between the tv with the set top box connected (SD box) and without it - and he was right.

All I know is its 100x better than the CRT I had before

I have a HiSence 48cm TV that does 1440x900 it says its a 1080i TV on the front, but yet i can do every resolution (including 1080p) and that "anyview" isnt too good, my tv doesnt have the greatest viewing angles but all in all its a good TV for PS3. I can recommend this screen. Its basically the same one as the catalogue but higher res and smaller viewing size.

Yeah its the 3rd one.

So if I was to go out and get a HD digital set top box instead of the SD one I have now, would it make any difference at all? Im thinking abut getting one in 2 weeks.

I want to get the HD channels.

Will depend on digital coverage in your area & your tv aerial. If you signal strength with the SD box is good (connect the SD box and tune channels - should autotune - then you should be able to check signal strength in menu or settings or something), then it should also be good with a HD box. If low or poor signal strength and you are getting broken images you may want to get your aerial checked (and if its an old place, the cable from the aerial to the wall socket.

Hope this helps.

Ewww. Have you looked at the contrast ratio? 800:1. Still, not bad for the price. I've got a 26" Samsung and that cost me nearly double of what this one costs.

Thats a smart idea. It seems like a really good price. I must admit I don't know much about TV's and HD though.

Is a contrast ratio of 800:1 bad?

800:1 Contrast ratio is BAD! It should be much higher than this for a good tv. I would honestly consider buying this if the contrast ratio was a little higher becasue the contrast ratio determines colours in a way. I will only consider 8000:1; 800:1 seems far to low. I'm no expert though
