800:1 isn't great... It's definitely below average, although most LCDs are generally lower than plasmas, and cheaper ones are almost always about 800:1. 1500:1 and above is what you want, though for this price, and in a well-lit room it is excellent. If you play in a dark room, probably not the way to go

8000:1 this is likely to be a Dynamic Contrast ratio & not the actual contrast ratio of the panel. Also Contrast Ratio's (& even DCR's) of above 3000:1 are usually not found on TV's of this size.

Best this you can do is rock into your local Good Guys, view the TV and make your own mind up.

By the way, my PC monitor, 22" Benq LCD only has a contrast ratio of 700:1 and it looks gr8 to me

DCR 2000:1 contrast ratio!!!!!!

EDIT: the only down side is the stand isnt as maneuverable as more expensive ones.. but the LCD part is great (the part that matters lol)

it will only play 1080i not 1080p, you can't upscale to 1080p with a 720p set. also you can get a full HD X series (100hz) 40in for under $3000! shop around dude

Sorry, didn't mean to offend, my comment was in relation to you saying "what a rip" to the 3k for the 40" bravia in relation to your 22" -> my point compare apples to apples.

I also play mine on my 26" 720P bedroom LCD and love it, but it's not a pinch on the 46". I assume you think the same about your 50"? Do you mean 52"? Bravia LCD's don't come in 50" to my knowledge.

Jeffie, I agree, in the right conditions, (ie dark room, good screen etc) a 100" HD projector rocks... maybe one day I'll be in a position to have a dedicated Theartre/Gaming room.
