ive got a Sony Bravia 46" X3100, came with the free PS3.
looks really nice. i remember when i first plugged it in and it asked me to display at 1080p, the clarity that ensued was amazing.
with the MotionFlow, im pretty sure that it doesnt work with games like FPSs (like COD4). because its inserting frames, your display will be behind the action, and youll probs get owned alot.\
The 46X3100 has a Game Mode which i think disables any settings that affect gaming, like the MotionFlow, so this is handy to have.
also, see if you can get a TV that keeps individual settings for each input. i know mine does, handy for when you want motionflow off during games, but it on during TV.
EDIT: i just read your first post and saw your budget, 1080p might be outta the price range. the MotionFlow stuff will still apply though, and like chooky said, dtvforum is a great resource. i hung around there for a while comparing TVs and stuff.
good luck, im sure youll be happy with whatever you choose.

I'm looking at purchasing a 46" Sony Bravia X series. Just interested in seeing what price people may have seen it for recently. I think I saw it for just under the $3,500 mark with a $200 something cashback at JB any better deals you may have seen?

ozdavo and chooky:thanks for the links - they're pretty damn informative
awesome.. thanks for all the help guys!! i think i will raise my budget ($1400-$1600, which means a longer wait) and probably go for the samsung 40" tv.. which model is most suitable for gaming though?
the N8 looks like its the cheapest, but cnet says that image quality isnt that good. anyone can attest that?
R8: isnt full HD, pass.
M8: this is the cream of the crop, in terms of bang for buck, isnt it? anyone have this model? comments?
F8: outta my budget.
i will eventually head down to the shops to check out image quality myself, but any information i can get before that will be great. thanks again!

the 100hz thing is a gimmick - does nothing - still has horizontal jutter...... 120hz is what you should look for.

so if 100htz is a gimmick what does that make 120, a complete joke, if 100 does nothing than i doubt 120 would

The Samsung and Sony panel's (LCD) come of the same production lines, they are then shipped to each company for electronic and casing installation

wow... they are pretty damn cheap. i'm still reading about then brand on the dtv forums www.dtvforum.info/ but i gotta say, it does look impressive. on their website, a 42" full hd tv is listed for $1399 www.kogan.com.au/
! but it says it uses an LG panel instead of a samsung one.
does anyone here have a kogan tv? how well does it perform? my friend told me it appeared on tv last night, but i missed it..

Yeah I saw the segment on Today Tonight, and of course they were talking him up being a young Aussie entrepreneur up against the 'big boys' blah blah. I actually recognised his name, Ruslan Kogan from a forum I was on ages ago. He was backing up his products there, trying to assure everyone they are quality.
Oooh found it (it's old though):
www.dtvforum.info/
Mr. Kogan features a bit in there and all the people who have posted seem to think the Kogans really stack up against brand name TVs, but there are a few unsatisfied customers in there too. Have a read if you can be bothered. I'd say just remember that you get what you pay for; but if people who are using one say it's doing the job then who am I to argue

Not made in Aus, he gets them made in china or somewhere. I haven't had personal experience with these, but many cheap LCD's use samsung, LG or Panasonic panels, but this doesn't make them good TV's. Of massive importance to a LCD is the picture "engine", in the same way the graphics card is important to your PC's display. A perfect example of this is the fact at least three manufactures will be using cell processors (same as PS3) as the heart of the picture engine in the next gen LCD's due late this year.
Where alot of these cheap LCD's fall over is with SD content, where they display a high degree pixelation that does not occur with better tv's.

well when you make pathetic remarks like leprosy gay, expect all the flaming in the world and in regards with people you know, naybe they treated there LG stuff like garbage, i haven't experienced anything bad or known anyone who has with LG, but yet with samsung, i don't know anyone who has experienced anything good

thanks for that. yeah i have been reading the first few pages, and you're right. kogan talks it up, with a mix of satisfied and not so satisfied buyers.
i think i'll play it safe and spend a bit more for a better brand name. it is a long term investment anyway, so its a better idea to go a known brand than something new in the market. looks like its gonna be a samsung then

lol@that.
i think we have 100hz cause our TV stations display at 50hz.
the US uses 60hz, and so theirs is 120hz.

You just feel insulted because you own LG..and i don't think anyone who goes out to buy a $2000+ TV would treat it like "garbage"..think about it.
