yeh im having the same freaking trouble with everything. loading not working, putting it on usb then it coming up with "no applicable data"!! FTW!! seriously why do SONY need to update bull**** specs that we never care about and therefor create an embargo on online gaming when it doesnt work?

Here's what worked for me:
I downloaded the update file from the following address (it's a bit long, but it's all included here:
dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/
Save the .PUP file in a folder called PS3/UPDATE.
Copy PS3 folder with /UPDATE and /file.pup to a removable storage device - I burned mine to a CD, but flash drive would work just as well.
Stick it in the PS3.
Go through the regular system update process except select removable media from the options.
The update is just a back end upgrade on the system's performance - for me it made a difference with online modes.

They just improved the playback quality for some PlayStation 3 games.
Just updated and it was done quickly. Surprised this didn't happened when 2.40 came out.

The update makes it possible for sony to release ps1 games on the psn network. There is also a psp update which does the same thing. So there will be a few new ps1 games on the psn in the coming weeks.

Does anyone know why im getting a "no applicable data" sign regarding my USB with the update in it? i tried with just it on USB, in a folder by itself and it just isnt working. It is the 2.42 .PUP FILE update at 130MB but it just wont work on the PS. Any help appreciated as its about to be thrown through the window.

Yeah but apparently they have to do this with any ps1 game they bring out, so they do a couple of months worth of games with each update. Thats why we get so many updates that appear to do nothing.

2.42 just fixes some bugs,
and none of those games have trophies.
