Damn ... ok. To prevent this from happening again, if I use the Backup Utility in Settings ... then I don't need to download it again in the future right?

e.g. my PS3 is stuffed, I either get a replacement or get it fixed ... I can just do a restore using my backup, and I should be able to play the PSN game again (without the need to download the game again off PSN)?

edit - if you upgrade to another internal one, you just have to download them again and re-install them....it wont cost you an extra licence though

Oh far out. So the people here at MyPS3 who have shared their games and used up their 5 downloads ... if you need to download it again for some reason (e.g. replaced PS3), you can't redownload them can you?

You'll have to call up Sony as well hey ...

By deactivating the game to your console you give yourself back the first license you used when you first purchased the game, so when you get your replaced console you can re-download them.
As for the games you have swapped & dont own the license you can deactivate them also & ask the person you swapped with if you can re-download again as when you deactivate a shared game you are giving the license back to that user.

how do you know all this do you know someone who has been in that situation?

cos i think im still keeping my 5th licences for my next console until i get a source on this...
