Sony has stated on their website that the new 80GB is going to be released in September this year and is not going to have PS2 Backwards Compatibility but the best part is, it will be the same price as the 40GB so anyone thinking of buying a 40GB should wait till September to get more value for your money. 80GB is still going to have BluRay and Wi-Fi so no worries.

It always was going to have Wi-Fi and Bluray Included. Its just more GB Space, they arent changing any features.

yeah, I'm just glad they announced it now because I was going to buy a 40Gb PS3 but after reading this, I'm waiting till August 27 and getting an 80GB for the same price as the 40GB.

if you think you cant wait, $60 will get you a brand new 120GB HDD to wack into a 40GB model or $93 for a 250GB.

Yeah, there is that side too. But for the same amount of money spending on 40GB PS3, I just wait a month, get a 80GB same price and if want to upgrade the HDD, i'll put the 80GB HDD into a hard Disk enclosure so I can use the 80gb as external hard drive for my PC.

sorry to be a prick.. but what about the ds3 controller too..? hmm.. i think it's actually worth it.. considering 400 euro works out to be $20 (NZD) more than the current 4ogb.. i'll be getting it when i move out..
guess this is the sku with all the scaled down gpu's and cpu's, where playstation is cutting their expenses.. their way of 'not seeing a price drop' .. give us more for our $$ instead
(gotta love their paying it forward.. kinda..)

Just read this from another website:
"80 GB PS3 Core Pack complete with DualShock 3 announced
E3: Sony revelaed today that they plan to make the 80GB PlayStation 3 the primary focus of their hardware line-up. They will be releasing a new hardware package called the '80 GB Core Pack'. It will cost $399 and come with a DualShock 3. The new 80GB PS3 in the pack will have the same functionality as the outgoing 40GB version."

40 gig or 80 gig so what same machine different size hard drive.
First thing I'm doing when I pick my 40 gig up is rip it out and put in a 160 or 250 gig.
To be honest I don't really care for dualahock vibration that much so wether I have it or not doesn't bother me.

60gb PS3s are backwards compatible with PS2 games. I think 120gb PS3s are too.
But neither are still in production. The only way you can get one is probably second hand.

I currently own 105 Japanese (Region 2) SONY PLAYSTATION 3 BD games, 12 Australian (Region 4) SONY PLAYSTATION 3 BD games, 1 European (also Region 2) SONY PLAYSTATION 3 BD game...TOTAL = 118
Meh, I was close. I knew it was some kind of PS3.

If I remember correctly not all PS2 games were compatible with those PS3 consoles. Some games had minor problems, while a few had more noticable differences.
But yeah, I'd keep the PS2. That's what I've done.
