Hi, i have the file, windows vista service pack 1, on my computer, but i am not familar with installing a new microsoft on my computer. First i have to burn it on to dvd, but what do i burn in as (i have nero 8). Should i burn it as a DVD (boot) or just a dvd iso image?

Also are there any major steps or commands i will have to enter like linux on the ps3. or is it all prety forward, eg. Click next and press a few buttons.

Will be looking to install it later tonight, so need as much information as i can get. My laptop is windows Vista compatible, just incase wondering.

Another question, this laptop came with windows xp on it, so if something goes wrong, is there away for this computer to get windows xp back on it once vista is installed. i have the HP recovery disks (laptop is a hp computer).

Yay, someone who isn't bashing Vista ...

I'm running Vista SP1. Booting up either my desktop or laptop (both Vista SP1) doesn't take that long. It's quicker on my laptop though, I must admit.

Nothing wrong with Vista it works fine. Just install SP1. Generally the people that complain about Vista and games and things running slow are running it on old machines.

It installs just like XP you wont have any problems.

And if the conformation stuff annoys you just turn off the UAC.

VISTA > XP > 98 > 95 > 2k (lol)

i was in the "XP is betterer" camp, hell i said the same thing when win2k came out... but i got vista and learnt how to use it. i wont go back to XP

FYI no it wont make ur celeron 300a run any quicker... vista isnt designed for slow systems... slow ram is a vista killer imho.

I'll admit that Vista may take awhile getting use to, but once you're use to it ... it's a great OS.

And yes, it needs a lot of RAM. But once you have 2GB or 4GB of RAM (and seriously, it's not that expensive anymore) you're pretty set for a good Vista experience ...

I LOOOOVE my Vista Ultimate. Its so pretty!!
But seriously, I dont see why ppl bash on it all the time. Its pretty decent in my opinion. I hear all the customers windging that their friends told em its crap blah blah blah, but I think most ppl havent even tried it themselves.
It makes my work alot easier, I love how streamlined everything is. The one quirk is the User Account Control, but you can easily turn it off and WALLAH! a perfect operating system! (hehe... almost)

Yeah haha. I built my current computer running Vista SP1 completely from scratch, for the Vista Aero experience

It's not really a beast. Economical choices though

Ive got Vista Ultimate on my laptop (SP1) and its fine (Had to upgrade ram for it to run better so now have 4gb). People who say "Vista is crap" are just saying that because its what they have heard, SP1 fixed alot of the problems that it had so unless you have Vista keep you opinons you yourself please.

Biggest problem is such a huge range of hardware out there that isn't properly supported by Vista.

If you went out early last year some time and built yourself a PC from mixed odds and ends, chances are, you'll have trouble getting Vista to run. But if you went out and bought a 'Vista Certified' laptop from HP with Vista pre-loaded, then you'll find that Vista is great, and does everything it should.

It did bring some great improvements to the table, however, isn't really suitable for older machines, as it's very resource hungry - particularly when running Aero.

SiR, i dont know where to start... please dont think im picking on you im trying to help you (and those like you).

please list the new (last 12 months will do) graphics cards, mice, keyboards, for PC's etc that dont support Vista: k...go!

backwards compatabiliy for your SB Audigy for example? nein! Creative said they'd only go back to the Audigy2 for vista... hardly Vista's fault...

the whole "Vista certified" was a terrible idea, it cost them money cause they wern't vista 'premium' certified and they had to upgrade many laptops for free...

bullding
