Just wondering whether anyone here has been to Japan and can recommend places to go (besides Sony Central Tokyo)?

I went to Japan in January but only for 2 days, we stopped there before going to Canada and America.

Japan is awesome I loved it and will definitely be going back. I recommend going to Shibuya. We spent most of our two days shopping here, however its mainly the fashion area so clothes, shoes etc only found one electronics shop. Still you must go there is a road right near the station that gets sooo packed when people cross, I think its famous for it.

Also make sure you plan where your going because it is so massive. We tried to find electronic shops with no luck. There is a district for technology but seeing as there city loop was like 30 stations we didn't quite have enough time to find it.

Ouch! 30 stations. Thanks for the advice mate. I'm planning on buying a lonely planet book for Japan and go from there. I like clothes and such so Shibuya should be good. We're planning on buying a 10-14 day train/travel pass so that should help getting around.

If you're going to Tokyo, stay on the Yamanote Line, anywhere on that line, as all the major places in Tokyo are on that. If you're staying for 7 or more days, I suggest getting a JR Rail Pass, as it saves you money. All of your transport will be via the trains.

Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi, Disneyland, Yokohama, Ikebukuro are all good places to visit. There is a place with temples and stuff but I forgot the name of it.

Ginza is more upper-class and popular designer stuff, while Shibuya and Shinjuku, and Harajuku, have all the independent designers.

I have the Japan Lonely Planet Book, which isn't Tokyo focused, but has enough info on it if you're interested. $30. PM if you are. Perfect condition. It helped me a lot, especially with food, bars/nightclubs and shopping. It also has some tips on Japanese culture and stuff.

Also, be aware that on the trains you can't talk on your phone or anything, so yeah, just FYI. You pretty much have to be silent.

Any Sony Central is overrated. It's good, but nothing in there really blew my mind. It had nothing I haven't seen before, and a lot of worthless stuff, like a little robot that stores and plays about 100 MP3's for about 50,000 yen (about $500).

A small video of my recent trip there.

Wow, great video. Looks gorgeous, so dreamy. I've heard Japan is insanely pricy, in terms of food / accomodation. Can anyone confirm?

Edit: lulz love the aftermath of the nightclub.

Well...now they're almost on par with us (Australia) in over-all cost of living.
I go to Japan once a year and never feel the expense...Japan's economy is going down hill. Savings to be had left, right and centre.

Mate. Thanks so much for that post. Brilliant video. I'm really looking forward to going. Besides flights and acomm, how much spending money would I need for 10 days? Looking to not so much buy lots of things but just go around and see and do lots.

I spent around than 80 australian a day.

You can get a bowl of Ramen (noodle) for around 300 yen ($3.10) or sushi and stuff for very cheap. There are plenty of Japanese burger joints and stuff, and food I found it cheap. If you head into the restaurants, it gets pricey, but the same as Melbourne or Sydney.

$500 (if you're not planning on splurging on videogames) a day should be sweet.

EDIT: Indeed, Hugh is right! Akihabara is teh best!!! You haven't lived till you've wondered the streets of Akihabara and gone from electronic shop to electronic shop.

P.S: Don't get stabbed though, lol.
