do you think they could ever make the graphics better than the ps3 and make a ps4 because i read in the playstation magazine that the ps4 could be out by 2016 i dont no if that is true but it would be koool so get saving if u want one lol

The problem isn't that we don't have technology that can make insane graphics, the problem is that technology is expensive to produce / mass market. As technology progresses, hardware gets cheaper
They can already create games that have graphics identical to CG clips, it's just..
A. How much would it cost to produce? (MGS4-GTA4 Cost over 100 million to develope)
B. No console can it, how many PC's would be able to run it? It's economically illogical.

2016p would be great but ps3 can barely handle 1080p gaming.....
probably need 4 times the power to handle 2016p....

because the ps2 wasnt expandable like the ps3(hdd)
and becuaes devs are taking so long to harness the power of the cell , ps3 wont be living up to its potential for quite a few years i think....

Its inevitable that the next generation of playstation will be more powerful than the current generation. Look at evolution of ps1>ps2>ps3 each generation has brought a new generation of storage medium & dramatic increases in processing & rendering power.
When you also consider that the gpu of the ps3 is nearly 3 years old already & the current gpu chipsets from nvidia are significantly faster then what sony could buy back then. If they were to make a ps3 with whats available now the ps3 would have zero problems with full 1080p rendering. Thus using the parts available to them in 2010-?, the next generation will be probably 5x faster than current playstation & be capable of rendering resolutions greater than 1080p

also because at launch, the ps3 was only "10% functional", and there was all that talk about how good it was GONNA be, a couple years down the line......so it's been a slow moving project and i cant see them bailing on it that quickly at all. well, thats what he said really, so it was actually an informative response dude, why the sarcasm?
Maybe once the ps3 has reached full capacity (ie, we get HOME, playTV into all regions) then you could call that your "release date" starting point which you're using in your analogy....
so i agree with everyone else here, 2016-17, at least

Yes it did. It was also held back by a number of things that the xbox had and the ps2 didnt. Full 5.1, internet conectivity, hard drive were all things the xbox could do out of its box. I think that if sony was just competing with nintendoh, we all would still be playinging ps2 games. The release of the 360 accelerated the prosess making sony release the ps3 far earlier than they probaly expected, and thats why i believe, that sony are still struggling with things like home and trophy's

I think we will get new generation about 2011-12. Sony keeps talking about its 10 year plan for ps3. I think this is similar to their plan with ps2, support as major connsole for 5-6 years then wind out it life cycle enjoying the large amounts of software sales the huge installed base allows & the ability to sell cheap subsidised hardware. But definitely with a replacement planned by 2012 ( which will be using 2010's gpu technology)

Your all forgetting that the life of the ps2 ISNT finished. Its sill the biggest selling console in the world. It still moves more titles than any other console.

nope not forgetting ps2 .. its the 10 yr model the ps3 is following.. ps2 launched in 2000 .. successor released 6 years later is now in 8th year of its 10year life cycle, at this point of the life cycle its all gravy for sony ... hardware costs them almost nothing & they are still make liscencing fees from the thousands of ps2 titles availble ( & still being made) & still selling very well.
