Super stardust HD Review - 8/10
Super stardust HD is a re-imagining of the original super stardust for the Amiga CD32. It is part of one of the newest and quickest growing genres in gaming, the twin stick shooter. (Left stick moves right stick shoots) But this is much more than you’re average Geometry wars clone.
the game can get frantic when there are rock fragments falling everywhere
GAMEPLAY: the game mechanics of super stardust is a bit more involved than your normal twin stick shooter and it’s all the better for it. You have 3 weapon types each specialising in breaking apart different types of rocks (rock, gold and ice). Also instead of being limited to a small flat 2-D plane, stardust takes place in orbit around a planet. So you fight on a sphere witch allows you to continue in any direction and never reach a wall, and thusly allows you to run away from situations that may otherwise prove deadly.
In the beginning of stardust you will be mostly trying to break apart all the rocks that are falling, so that they don’t overwhelm you and destroy your little ship, breaking apart rocks can also yield extra point pickups, weapon upgrades , shields and extra lives. But as the game progresses enemies start appearing and can get quite challenging to deal with, as well as all the rocks that are falling down at the same time. There is also a boss encounter at the end of each planet, these start off easy but like the rest of the game they ratchet up in difficulty towards the end to make them very frantic and hard experiences
To help deal witch extreme situations, you have a boost manoeuvre that makes you invincible and sends you rocketing forward destroying everything in your path (also any point pickups are doubled wile you are boosting)
You also have a salvo of bombs which can destroy any thing surrounding you and are acquired by destroying bomb carrying vessels that appear around the planet.
There is also an online leader-board that tracks your high scores and ranks you against every one else, so that you can have official bragging rights
The gold melter looks the best
VISUALS: the visuals in stardust are really nice with rocks breaking into tiny pieces and flying around the screen and colliding into other floating boulders it looks great when its all in motion, it can get a bit hectic as some points and you can lose sight of your self if your not careful but over all the visuals are very fluid and slick with great effects when you blast the rocks into hundreds of pieces.
Looks even better in motion.
CONCLUSION: Super Stardust HD is an excellent twin stick shooter witch combines all the elements of other twin stick’s and improves on them with multiple stages and weapons to a spherical plane to fight on it is one very fun, tight and addicting game that should be purchased by all playstation 3 owners.

* Reviewer’s notes: All my PSN network title reviews will be adopting the format
* I have used for this review. IE no overall score total, only game play, visual scores
* and a price and value rating and a RECOMMEND which can either be YES, NO or
* MAYBE. Meaning I either recommend you buy the tittle or not.
*
* P.S. as this site needs a score in the review input form I will be using my
* game play Score as the one I give to the site for these PSN reviews
