Ubisoft acquire Nadeo
Founded in Paris in 2000 and given a talented team of developers, Nadeo Studios has realised their potential by creating cult-hit TrackMania and winning acclaim for the high quality of its multiplayer technology.
With a highly recognised online-play system which has already has more than ten million registered users, it would be very fair to say that Nadeo have a great amount of experience in the industry of online gaming. Its most critically-acclaimed game shows this, with over 700,000 individuals using the online in the game every month. It also created the highest new standard in shared software, with millions of custom-tracks being shared online.
But Nadeo will work on their own no longer. Ubisoft, who claim to have been looking to get themselves further into the online multiplayer industry for a while now, saw their chance and took it, and have now officially acquired Nadeo Studios. What keen gamers are hoping is that Ubisoft can use this new technology to implement multiplayer into their highest regarded franchises.
A representative from each side of the negotiation both had plenty of positive things to say about Ubi's new acquisition.
“The acquisition of Nadeo is an important step in our expansion within the on-line gaming sector. Through Nadeo, Ubisoft will gain an expert team, one of the best on-line technologies around as well as a flagship multiplayer game that enjoys an unrivalled reputation among a loyal and committed community. We are excited about the idea of introducing TrackMania to an ever-wider audience and sharing the expertise of Nadeo’s teams with our Group’s other developers.”
Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, had nothing but promotion for the new team. He took note of the ever-widening audience of online gaming (especially within TrackMania) so hopes are high that Ubisoft can meet this demand with their new access to online technology.
“Joining Ubisoft is a huge opportunity for us to develop and innovate and take Nadeo to new horizons. Nadeo’s team was keen for this acquisition to happen. Like players in a community, we see ourselves as being a complementary fit with Ubisoft and believe that we can share and quickly move ahead together.”
Florent Castelnérac - CEO of Nadeo Studios - like many others in the gaming industry, was fascinated by the new possibilities on offer thanks to the deal between themselves and Ubisoft.
No immediate projects have been announced since the deal but gamers are expecting Ubisoft to pick up when it comes to online gaming both on the PC and on consoles. Only time will tell what this new deal will deliver.
