Does not necessarily mean he will shoot himself, but he does stick the gun in his mouth. I think poor old Snake has seen too much action, too much war, and at his old age I suppose he wants to end it all.

You see this sort of thing in movies all the time. The protagonist is struggling with inner demons or something similar, and contemplates killing themself. They put the gun in their mouth and are normally interrupted by something or someone that makes them think twice.
