Hi everyone. I’m a newbie and I’ve got a few questions regarding the ps3 so I thought it’s best to consult the oracle (that being you guys) is the ps3 40 hd only version going to be available here in Oz? Are there going to be any other versions to come out early next year?
Or are they just going to concentrate on the 40s for awhile? thanks

Hey mate welcome to the site
I don't think there's much chance of us getting larger versions when they've just pulled the 60GB from our shelves.
THe 40 is helping to compete with the 360 and it's proven that sales are up so yeah I think it'll get Sony's focus for a while per se.
Not saying larger consoles will never happen but I doubt it's anytime soon.

Thanks dsreaper. Yeah I thought it would be too early to bring another version out so soon. My friend told me since the ps3 price cuts, the 40s were doing so well that Sony was going to introduce an elite version like the xbox.

yeah GT4 works but it does have some problems and they aren't minor but nor are they that bad. the first is that the screen will shake when starting the game up and also on the top left of screen when racing/driving it will emit strange colours

sony should release the 80 gig model here in Aus next year. It is exactly the same as the original 60's that we had (ie it will play ps2 games), but with an 80 gig hard drive.
here is a small chart to help you understand the difference between the models
------------------------------------------------|
----------------|60gig---|-80gig--|-40gig-------|
----------------|--------|--------|-------------|
plays ps3 games|--yes---|-yes----|-yes--------|
plays ps2 games|--yes---|-yes----|-NO---------|
plays ps1 games|--yes---|-yes----|-YES--------|
------------------------------------------------|
All models play DVD's and Blu-ray movies

40gb also does not have;
-Memory stick/SD Flash drives
-It only has 2 USB ports instead of 4
-and cannot play Super Audio CD's
The top 2 can be easily rectified and the last i never knew existed until i read it on the AUS Playstation site.
Just grab a USB Hub and plug that in to the ps3. Ive read threads/forums where people have tested this to work. Also plugging in USB SD Card readers etc work too.
(I can personally trest if u want proof)

long time!,, you can always just buy a bigger hdd if 40gig is not enough!
The 80gig version that can play PS2 games "should" be out around feb-march next year but that is just a guesstimate. Their has been no official word about if or when they will be releasing it in Australia

Hi and welcome to the site!
Currently the 40Gb is the "spot on" selling point for the PS3 worldwide, this is why you see the 80Gb and 60Gb models being replaced by the 40Gb.
I can make an educated guess that Sony will release more "packaged" PS3 such as 2 extra games or and/or an extra controller.
Many insiders from Sony also said that if the demand for higher capacity is known, then Sony will offer it to their consumers.
Hope you'll be getting a Ps3 soon!

Well I’m in a bit of dilemma guys maybe you can help me out with some advice. Now there is a new game shop opening up here and offering specials on the ps3 40 hd. Trade in your ps2/xbox and 10 games and pay 300 for ps3. I’m not really worried about the hd because I know you can always get a bigger one but I do like the extras the old 60 had. What do you think? Should I just go with 40hd or wait for the 80?

Only problem is you could be waiting a very long time for a 80gig model. We are yet to see the 40gig model packaged with games which I think will be the next move by SONY like they did with the 60gig model.
