Greetings.

I have heard rumours (people bragging) that they have managed to upgrade their PS3 Hard Drives from the standard 40 60 80gb. to a 250gb of the same make and model, just larger capacity. Those that have said they have ugraded their system say that by Sony's T & C's its got the ok and does nothing wrong to the system.

I was just wondering if any of you fellow MyPS3 members have jumped into the darkness and tried this? I mean im not at the point where im exactly crammed for space on the hard drive right now, but it would help me shutup some 360 fanboys at work ... and if it does nothing wrong, why not?

(Came across this on Gamespot and other forums when i was looking for keyboard n mouse compatible ps3 games ... but as soon as i picked up that sixaxis, the ps2 days kicked back into gear)

If your laying your PS3 down, there is a small plastic cover you can remove on the left. Check your PS3 manuel to be sure, but I think you just remove 1 screw to take out the hard drive.

STill unclear on how it would effect the warranty of the unit but seeing as i have a 300gb external that goes unused beside me laptop i guess ill just use that.

I have updated my ps3 hard drive to a 160gig about 3 months ago. If upgrading the hard drive which is easy you need to first use the ps3 backup util and also backup your music,video clips and picture first. Then remove the ps3 hard drive,replace it with any size 2 1/2" sata hard drive,on first boot just format it and use the restore util in the ps3 and then copy your music,video's and pictures back to the new hard drive

I wouldnt buy a Western Digital since i had problems with my 10gb hard drive which save all my music and stuff ages ago but died like no less then 6 month after i bought it... just to let people know about so you dont go losing alot valuable data and making the same mistake as i did...

And yea ... I finally upgraded my PS3 hard drive from 40GB to 250GB

It's so sweet. I transferred all my pictures/music/videos/game saves to a USB first. Replaced, formatted. Then transferred them back onto the HDD
