Here are my reasons:

1) Great games/getting cheaper/more of them
2) Web browser/can you usb keyboard/mouse so 2nd internet terminal
3) Blu-ray and great dvd player (upscaler, makes your dvds rock)
4) Great media streaming via network from you pc to play any movie format/mp3/photos etc
5) 40gb model has ps1 backwards support, great for the kiddies games

I reckon if they are/were trying to market it as a real good blu-ray player at the start, they should've put some sort of display on the unit with dvd running time, chapter etc like a normal player.

Close, The Linux Distribution to do this is called Yellow Dog, although I believe other distributions are being produced.

This can be done very easily. Using WMP11 in Vista you can stream most audio files to the PS3. You can use other products like TwonkyVision and TVersity to stream music, video and even transcode unsupported video formats to something the PS3 can playback in real-time (provided there is a sufficient CPU on the PC to perform the task).
