hey guys i was over my mates house playing all these games that i bought over the ps3 had been on since 7am in the monring and i had arrived @ his house around 1:50pm. so after we started to play for maybe another 3-4hrs we stopped cause we notice that the audio was gone. We then tired to see if the output cables were loose and they werent.
so we kept playing for maybe another 30mins and then stopped. after we came back i tired to load COD4 first it took longer for it to load and there had an error poped up. i dont know what the error was but i quitted the game and under the game menu on XMB there was no pop up for COD4 and the disc was inside.
he turned it off for the rest of the day cause it was really hot. the next day the error and the audio and this time it froze. and when manually turned off using the power point at the front the ps3 never turned off he had to turn it off @ the back.
When turning it back on there was a loud fan noise coming from the back and it lasted for 20secs and there was a red light flashing. But no yellow light. Anyone ever had this problem is it fixable with just a long period of rest? probably consulting EB will be the last thing he will do
Is it a new ish ps3?
if so its more likely that your having disc errors. I have seen some reports of dodgy disc drives on some of the newer Aus ps3. it might still be heat but if the problem persists call Sony and get them to fix it under warranty.

well the disc worked fine when i got home and yea its pretty new he got it around about xmas 40gb bought it from EB games
is your ps3 in a well-ventilated area? Also, don't have too many plugs in one socket.

my ps3 is fine its my friends ps3 but umm he does have that controller from Big -W its not the sony one and his usb ports is all filled up and its placed near a glass window

well the best advice i can give if it continues to hapen. is just to tell him to call sony and they should be able to fix it if there is any thing wrong with it

maby just try geting him to put it in a more ventilated area. for a few days to see if that helps

my fan goes nuts when im playing COD4 so i moved it from under the tv cabinet and stood it up next to the tv and now it doesnt go nuts, unless its a hot day but if the air con is on its fine again. its rather it go nuts than get really hot and blow up tho.

dont worry about it overheating too much. as long as the vents on the side arnt covered up and some air can get around most of the console it should be fine. the fan will kick up alot more if its in a cabinet rather than out in the open but it dosnt hurt it. only makes more noise

and then ****ing lol sony goes that his PS3 can no longer read Blue ray
LOL! and so they go that even though everyone thinks its overheating...
Its not its just that hit ps3 cant read Blue ray anymore...errr....

anyways no biggie he says that his going to be shipping it out and will be getting another new one later...so my friend goes everything else is fully functional...it just cant read blue ray anymore...well at least that what sony says...Err how can a ps3 just suddenly not ready blue ray blue ray anymore? LOL hmm...must of been something he done LOL
It sounds like the colling fans a crapped them selfs which may have caused other problems, that's just my guess.

some of the laser diodes in the ps3's (especially in the new 40gig units) have been faulty. and thus the unit wont read blu ray discs any more

i get that too. when im playing COD4 online, the PS3 starts to fire up, and the same when i play the orange box. it gets the ps3 working

Anyone go to Egames in Melb in November? The PS3's there inside the caravan were in glass/plastic cabinets and as such regularly over heated at which point the PS3's turned themselves off and displayed a message on the screen that they would re-start once the machine cooled down.
Now I've never been brave enough to try this with my own machien but it made me think that maybe all PS3's have a built-in over heating safety device....

they probably do. but that device can be 100% fail safe.

yeah its cool to listen to music while you play but the only thing i dont like about it is when im playing cod4 i really have to watch for the grenade indicator cos im so used to hearing them first......i find i die a bit more often playing music because of that

ah yeah i know what you mean with the grenade sometimes i just throw it back if i can otherwise i just run in any direction (usually to the direction of the grenade
