Hey everyone

I just got a dualshock3 off playasia and was wondering, who else has one?

I tried it out today on Unchartered, and wasn't overly impressed by it.. There's a sort of high pitched whirring noise thats evident (when the motor spins) and for some reason, it sort of feels like the vibration is greater on the LHS of the controller compared to the RHS (could be the way I'm holding the controller though? not sure).

Just wanted everyones thoughts on the vibration (to determine if mine is "faulty" or if its the way the controller is meant to be)

I've used Xbox 360 controllers before, and the Dualshock 3's vibration isnt anywhere near them (as in, theres no whirring noise when the motor spins, and the vibrations felt more even throughout the controller).. I much prefer the X360 controllers..

not much you can do if its faulty... the shipping there and back will cost you about half of a new one... just buy one and let that one be the spare for your mates to use.

My one seems fine and works well in Burnout Paradise (Showcase keeps it rumbling) and Tekken 5:DR. I can't compare it to an XBOX360 as I've never used one - but yours could be dodgy (although unlikely). Try it with other games and see if you get the same result. How it responds is really up to the programmers.

i actually know from experience when i opened up a psone control that a feature of the 'dual shock' is that there is two little motors spinning uneven weights instead of one like the N64's rumble pak had. And i distinctly remember that when i saw them.. one was smaller than the other motor even tho it looked like they could have implemented equal size motors... i didn't go too much into it though... maybe the little one spins faster to compensate.. but it could be part of the whole unbalanced is good for rumble effects? i dont know.. but it is a fact the psone control had different size motors.

as for the xbox 360 control.. i do like their controls a lot.. not perfect but the whole weight seems to be better.. but then again maybe too heavy? i wish the sixaxis had a similar X logo with the player no. indicator.. maybe a larger Playstation symbol with similarly fashioned lights.. but anyway.. doesn't matter.. its not all that often i catch myself staring at the controller!

I think it's possible that yours is defective. Mine whirrs but you can only hear it when there's like no sound coming out of the game. The rumbling seems pretty even as well.

I got 2 DS3 as xmas gifts and they all work fine.
Even now there are not much games support vibration,
I still think it is much better than Sixaxis because of its weight.
And buying one from pa only cost around $63, I think it is much cheaper
than Aussie price, at least $10-15~

Just buy one from a store, then take it back with the faulty one in the packaging and tell them its stuffed. You should get a replacement no worries, but of course then you will have bought 2 controllers
