Hey Guys I'm thinking of Importing a Ps3 from Ebay.com and in Brand new Condition, but Dad just told me that They make you pay more because of Tax or something Due to that the console is sold here.
But If I get a 60gig Do I have to pay that ?
OR
If I get a 40 brand new how much will the Tax cost me ?

It depends how much the console costs. Tariffs are only charged when freight inwards exceeds $1000 AUD. That includes shipping. So get the total amount you'd be paying and divide it by 0.94. If that's under $1000 you shouldn't have to pay any tax or customs charges at all.
Just be careful what region it is. If it's not our region it won't be able to play PS2 games, and it's also likely that you'll need a step down voltage converter, because we run on 220/240V whereas a lot of other countries (Japan and USA) run on 110V/120V. They cost about $120.

An import tax might be applied, but I've heard something about 'gifts' being excluded from this. See if you can find out how to get a parcel classified as a gift (it may be as simple as ticking a box when sending or including a birthday card as 'evidence' or something) and ask the seller if they'd be willing to do that for you. I'd be surprised if they said no since it means a sale for them!

I believe that on items over $250 AUD (maybe $500 AUD), Customs will charge you GST. I have paid duties on items in past, at least Australia has a much better import Tax system than other counties.

Just ring up customs and check with them, but I think you don't need to pay for tax on goods. bcuz you are not doing business, but if was a huge amounts that is different, just need to declare it.

wrong. the 1st guy was right with $1000au. but he was wrong about the step down converter, ive got the jap version and it plugs straight into the wall.
are you sure its $37? maybe you want to spend a bit more and go through UPS or similar so you can track it? at least youll have no 'lost in the mail' issues with the seller.
i bought mine from play asia, spent around $80 on shipping and it got here in 4 days and i could track its progress on myups.com
at the time i bought mine the $au was solid, so i spent under $500 delivered. there are plenty of reasons to buy one from OS.

just buy the asian one.. only thing that will be a problem really will be Blu- rays and ps2 games (both region locked) so not matter which you go with you wont be able to play aussie ps2 or blu-rays.
Obviously it would be easier to import US blu-rays but i dont know what region an asian ps3 is in... best to find that out

I bought an 80GB PS3 from Hong Kong last September with 3 games for $570 AUD. I haven't had a single problem with it since, it was the best choice I have ever made!
Yes, it won't play PS2 games but I wouldn't play them anyway cause there are so many awesome PS3 games. As for the blu-rays, I bought a copy of The Departed from JB Hifi and it plays it fine.
It will plug straight into the wall just make sure you purchase a converter as our plugs are different.
I also used two of those games to trade in for a free copy of GTA IV from JB so I'm laughing!!!

yeah like my psp the x and o are round the wrong way in the menus.. but in the games its what ever the game wants.. was annoying with my psp thats for sure!
