Hey, just wondering if anyone knew of a good mod chip installer or a good mod chip in general for a PS2 console (wether in Perth or that does send-aways). I bought Swap Magic awhile back so i could backup my PS2 games, and low and behold 2 discs so far have been scratched beyond repair (actually cut-up in the console itself - much like the 360 problem) - so those backups have come in handy.
Anyway, since its not illegal i decided i'd ask around and see if anyone would recommend one. Cheers

From what I can see of thier website, themodshop.com has some pretty good stuff. Its not hard to install yourself. Any good sparky will do it for cheap.

How about this ... I have one of these with my PS2:
Memor32 - MementoTeam - VAST - PS2 Plug and Play ModChip

But... does that allow you to play backup games or is it just for transferring saves?

Plug and play modchip: it allows you to play legal backup games, AND store game saves, AND transfer saves
I do warn you though, there are some games that won't work:

But it is a pretty convenient modchip.

Ok, Memor32 is the memory card which has a USB port on the side allowing you to connect it to your PC.
You load Memento firmware onto the Memor32 memory card (PAL, NTSC or Australia depending on where you bought your PS2 from). Insert the Memor32 in Slot 1 on your PS2.
One more thing. Before you burn your ISO backup of your PS2 game, you have to patch it with Memento's program. I don't know why. If you don't patch it, it won't work.
