Ahh, what's with the graphics obsession among gamers? I mean I love the graphics too, adds to the immersion level a lot, but whenever a game seems to be mentioned barely any GAMEPLAY discussion occurs, it's all "graphics this" and "graphics that".

Games are about gameplay, graphics are cool and all, but it's a game, not a movie or picture.

FPS only gamers are almost as bad as the Wii gamers who claim they're "hardkore"

The potential for bigger game spaces, smarter AI, better physics ect. is superior.

Games like "Afrika" will fail, people will buy for the graphics but the GAMEPLAY will fail...

The fact is that great graphics are something that all gamers should be thrilled to see, not only because your new game looks pretty and can better immerse you in the game; but also becuase everytime a developer breaks the mould and does something amazing with a graphics engine you can bet that another developer has spotted what they have done and will either replicate the same features or take their game another whole step forward.
However what separates the mediocre games with good graphics from the great games is the vision that excellent graphics servie to further the gameplay rather than mask the shoddy gameplay. Take MGS4, a game that is graphically stunning yet can be commended equally for it's rich gameplay.

and kids these days are all like "OHH SHINEY!!!" buy/trade, old news, next game plz.
here's a good question: will the next SF:IV champ be a NKOTB or OLDSKOOL (a game that is really 100% gameplay orentated)
EDIT: agree that much of this is FPS related and why i have mentioned two fps games specifically. no i cant speel.

i think that if your gonna play a game, why not have it look nice at the same time?

also, i much prefer a good physics engine. ragdoll is the funniest to watch and play with.

but 90% of the games on the Wii have horrible gameplay. I think it’s got more to do with its cheapness and the whole "family fun, buy it for your kids" appeal than incredible gaming experiences.

I agree but i dont want to play a game with the best graphics in the world that plays like ass. Then again i don't want to play the best game ever made and have to sit through NES graphics for example. You need that good medium.

The lowest level of graphics i would accept in this generation of gaming with a kick ass story line would probably be FFX spec.. ONLY if it had a good story line

Better graphics make you feel like you are more 'part of the game' which makes for a better gaming experience in the end. True?
