Games Refused Classification Are "Prohibited", Can Be Seized By Customs

Looking to import Fallout 3? Might not be such a wise idea - at least while the game remains without classification. Australian Gamer decided to get the final word on the legalities by contacting someone at the Australian Customs Service. Here's what it came up with:

...this was also confirmed by the Senior Customs Officer I spoke to, who told me "if they are refused classification they are deemed to be prohibited imports". When I pressed him as to what the repercussions of this would be if you went ahead and tried to import it anyway, he told me "Generally, Customs will seize the goods".

Well, "seize" is better than "fine", which is better than "gaol", which is better than "strip search", etc. The lesson? It's not so much you can't do it, just that you do so at your own risk.

I think what Krakenia is saying ... is that if Customs (somehow decides to open your package you unlucky person lol) opens your package and sees "Fallout 3" ... it's gone.

Maybe GTA4 could slip through because the game, under the exact same title but just simply censored a little ... is allowed to be sold on store shelves.

But yea, importing's fine. I've imported GTA4 (Uncensored) and Dark Sector. So far so good

I honestly think it's a little melo-dramatic, the vast majority of customs people wouldn't know what games are banned. People have been doing it for ages.

P.S. Kotaku are ****ing stupid for pressing the issue to a custom officer, since they'll more likely be on alert for imported(R-rated games), or simply step up and actually ENFORCE / impose those regulations to confiscate R rated material.

Manhunt 2 is old now, this article is recent, the suited ****s at the OFLC are obviously aware of people importing games these days, hence the recent heavier crackdown.

As much as i HATE to admit this, but we wont EVER get an R18+ classification, ever! We can be dreamers and wish, but that is as close as we will get. No amount of intelligently written documents will change our classifications. One randoms letter of text walls wont even be a drop of spit on their shoes. They mostly skim through the first paragraph and screw it up and bin it.
