So I want to upgrade my PS3 system software... for whatever reason, it won't read my USB stick. I used the same USB stick to upgrade my friend's console... no problem... so for whatever reason, it won't read the USB and I have to do it straight using the internet connection.

Can I use ethernet cable to do this? My comp has internet access now, and would connecting the comp to my console using ethernet cable do it? What should I do next? I have never done update using this before... can someone help? Should I install the file to my desktop first before I update it?

1. Make sure your internet is working in your PC - ie Goto Google.com and to a test search.

2. Move the network cable that provides internet to your PC - Take it out of the back of your PC and plug it into your PS3 (whilst it is turned off).

3. Turn on your PS3

4. Go into the System menu on the PS3, and then Netowrk settings and to a test connection - make sure it says "Internet connection - OK" in the list of tests...

5. Then goto the Sydsney Update item at the top of your SYSEM menu and update via internet.

This should work.
