Playstation 3 Software & Firmware \ Wireless Problem - Need Help

I will try and make this as short and as easy to understand as possible.

I have a D-Link wireless Router system that is about 3-4 years old now.
Apparently it is still up to the standards.

I am on Bigpond Broadband on the unlimited downloads plan.

The problem is that When I am on the computer or on the wii, PSP, whatevr. accassionaly the internet will drop out.
So i will just be browsing the web or downloading music and then a message will come up saying lost connection.

To fix that I have to go up to where the router is and unplug the power and plug it back in again.

But that gets really annoying. So we have had lots of computer nerds in and they carnt see what the problem is.

We have tryed switching some 'A' to 'B' to 'G' or something like that and that diddnt work.

We tryed Moving the actual router, diddnt work.

We got rid of the wireless mouses, diddnt work.

PLease I need some help because this will be an issue when I start playing online games via the PS3 or just downloading games.

A microwave can also disturb the connection, is the kitchen nearby?

Also you should be running it in A/B/G Mode so it can accept all... Apart from that, get a new router...

yeah ther is a microwave between some of the devices, I will switch it on and see what happens

Also It is a 2.4ghz frequency
and we have 5.8ghz wireless phones would that effect it as well?

No... Since the phones should work over a different frequency it shouldn't affect the router...

I have a wireless A/V sender to transmit foxtel to the bedroom. That is affected by the microwave so I guess your router would be the same, but not to the extent of dropping out. I have to reset my router every now and then, and it's not wireless. Plus if you've had some geeks over to check it out, I dont know why it drops out for ya...

GT HD took me about 1 hr on a decent strength connection, game demo's depend on which one you're downloading... Genji for example (or Full Auto 2) are as big as GT HD so took about the same time...

New problem, when I have my Wii on standby it is connected to the internet all the time, so when the internet dies the Wii freezes and i have to unplug the power to turn it on or just reset it. And I am sure thats not healthy for my wii or future PS3

Eh, PS3 won't freeze, it'll just say Ethernet Cable has been unplugged

I'm not too sure as to those booster thingies, I'd just buy a better router is all, prolly cheaper that way too!

Thats very unlikely..this is a classic case of wireless interferance, as has been stated above.
He has mentioned his router is a few years old which is probably the case.

I have a brand new D-link DI-624 and all my wireless connections work perfectly, if your looking into getting a new router i definatly recommend this one.

Is it possible to connect the ps3 to the net via a LAN adapter similar to the Wii?

Kirbstar I will also recommend the above-mentioned router, it's a very good router (not one I'm personally running, but I helped my friend set it up).

reags: Do you mean with a Cable? Then yes, PS3 comes with a 1 Gigabit Ethernet adapter included in it. Also can connect using the built in WiFi (60 GB Model only)
