Bionic Commando Box-Art
Goddamn.
No, seriously. GOD DAMN!
That is some awesome box-art. No one would think this is an 80s arcade classic remake. You really can’t get anymore hardcore than that!
Tiberium Cancelled
So, you thought the prospect of a FPS based in the Command and Conquer universe was interesting? Well, you best get over that. EA have cancelled the game, citing that it didn’t meet the standard requirements for a game by EA.
Here’s a statement from EA, thanks to Joystiq:
EA has suspended work on Tiberium effective immediately.
The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market.
This decision will result in some individuals being released. However, EA will make every effort to place talented people on other projects. Eligible employees will receive severance and outplacement support.
EA Los Angeles is home to several units of the company including EA Mobile, EA Casual Entertainment Headquarters, EA's Global Online group and others. At the EA Games Label studio in that facility, developers there are creating Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, a series of titles in development with Steven Spielberg, and other games which have not yet been announced.
Remember when EA were releasing game after game of rubbish? Around late-2003, early-2004? They’ve definitely turned the corner over the past year, with Mirror’s Edge and even Dead Space looking the goods. This cancellation will probably see the “release” of several of the games developers. How bad could it have been?
XBOX 360 owns PS3 in Europe...apparently
The XBOX 360 has seen an amazing spike of 214% in console sales over the past 2 weeks, outselling the Playstation 3 2:1 in the UK. It’s also good news in Europe, where the 360 is supposedly outselling the PS3.
Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA has said that “This data shows that the Xbox 360 trajectory continues upwards, and not just in the U.K. We've seen uplift in all countries in Europe and are confident that even at this rate of growth we can keep retail satisfied with a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season.”
Well, if the 360 is doing so well now, an even higher spike should be expected around Christmas time.
Wasn’t 2008 meant to be the year of the PS3? While the PS3 may outsell the 360, I personally can’t see it having the same year that the 360 had last year, where it outsold both the Wii and PS3 in software sales. While everyone knows that it’s hardware sales that really rate a consoles worth, it’s also the quality of the software that defines it. The 360 has consistently sold hoards of software. It’ll be interesting to see sales figures once the year is over. Both this year and the current financial year.
