Resistance 2 eGames Preview

A Peview - By Steve Heller

You are standing on a battlefield, a fellow soldier to your right, a fallen soldier to your left, and a giant "Goliath" aiming to force feed you rockets down your throat.... welcome to the opening level of Resistance 2 on the Playstation 3.

Players take control of American soldier Nathan Hale in Insomniac's sequel to the number one launch title for the PS3. In an alternate reality we see the Chimera forming another attack on the Human Resistance, this time on the lands of the USA.

Running for cover I pick up a rocket launcher, it feels heavy and weighted, and soon enough I'm firing rockets at the exhaust ports of the Goliath, that will keep it distracted for a while. We then run for a half standing building and the player is run through the mundane tutorial of L2 to duck, X to jump etc. A bit more running and we are faced with a wave of chimera grunts to mow down with the Bullseye. Tagging works a lot nicer this time round, once an enemy has been tagged they show up green on the screen and can be seen when hiding around corners.

The environment is great compared to the first one. It has this epic darkness to it, grass that softly moves in the breeze, and more colours than brown and grey. Player models are detailed and look great, but it still manages to keep a "this is a game, not reality" feel to it.

Controls are fluent and don't feel as constricted as the first Resistence, they just seem to flow together nicely.

Soon enough I was facing off yet again against the Goliath and running for my life before my playtime was cut short.

All I can say is people who loved the first game are going to go out and get this game on launch day regardless, for those of you, who like myself are sitting on the fence and weren't really into the first one, I'm going to come out and say you can believe in Resistance 2. This will be the Hot title for the 2008 holiday season
