PS3 News \ MyPS3 Folding@home breaks 1.5mil!

Well done to all who are Folding with their PS3s and PCs!
We as a Team have now moved up above the 890th position (0.65% highest percentile in the world!)

Again, I would like to congratulate everyone participating in our Folding team, and for those who haven't joined yet:

- Go to Network on your PS3 (make sure you are connected to the net first)
- Start up Folding@home client (download and update if necessary)
- Join Team 60766 (MyPS3)

Now you are contributing to the world and MyPS3 at once! What could be better?

exactly, so only turn it on when you finish gaming and go to bed/work/school etc.....although it has a function which allows you to listen to your own music while its running so i also run it while im doing stuff around the house sometimes (home-office for me), although it doesnt allow playlists which really sucks, it only has categories of genre......or "shuffle all", which is what i always pick

sure will matey, you should move about as fast as wutang now. i built up my 30,000 pt gap by getting a GPU Beta fold done every 3 days, plus about 50% of them missed the deadline, so i'd be surprised if you haven't passed me already buddy

i just saw a nice little machine with 8g ram standard (not sure if it was expandable) going for well under $3,000, so i might come back in the hunt then, when my whining, whinging old laptop finally dies...

Tonyamanda: its just helping out Stanford University's disease research team finding help/cures for things like alzheimers and cancer...they only have a certain number of computers at the Uni, right?, so they send out packets of work for us to do on our ps3's (we dont actually have to do anything, just start it up and go to sleep/work/whatever), then once our console finishes doing the work, which takes anywhere from 4 hours to 38 hours, it sends it back via internet and gets another one... the work packets are less than 5mb so it doesnt "eat up your downloads", as some people think

I'd strongly encourage everyone to give Folding@Home a go, whether its on their Playstation 3, regular PC, Mac or Linux box, and even try some of the advanced clients for more technical users - SMP & GPU setups

yeh, you can set F@H up so that it will Automatically turn off if your PS3 if left idol for 10,20 or 30 mins. So while you’re not using it you can let it fold away. And you can also leave things downloading while you’re folding.
