Welcome to the MyPS3 Folding@Home official team thread!

Our team number is 60766.

The Folding@Home application can be found under Network in the PS3 XMB. To join the MyPS3 team, open up Folding@Home, go to options, identity and then join an existing team.

Our team stats can be viewed here: fah-web.stanford.edu/
Folding@Home is an application which you can download for your PS3 which helps medical research on protein folding for Stanford University. Further knowledge of how protein molecules behave will hopefully lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimers, Hungtintons as well as some forms of cancer. Please contribute as much as you can, as every bit of help counts.

If you have any questions about Folding@Home, feel free to ask.

i'm not gonna waste my gigs per month helping random people on the other side of the world for no apparent reason. My ass there gonna find a CURE FOR CANCER!

Gigs? The files take less than 5 seconds to download and no more than 5 minutes to upload the results so I doubt you'll be using a single gig for Folding@Home in a month.

Guys you are seriously mis informed this is not a research project to CURE CANCER. it is for curing Alzimers. And other diseases that occur when protein’s mis fold so yeh why not help out people in need unless you like seeing people suffer then you can take pride in not helping out.

They stated that the possiblities are very open and that the research COULD lead to cures for cancer as well. There are plenty of diseases which are caused by misfolds in proteins.

Man one day you'll regret not HELPING OTHERS. In fact I will have to CRITICALLY CORRECT you because CANCER IS CURABLE.

longarms have a lot of good points there. START FOLDING BECAUSE IT COULD SAVE THOSE AROUND YOU, EVEN YOURSELF.

keep up the good folding guys!

for doubters: neither i nor Stanford Uni has told anyone that a cure is just a couple of months away... it will take a while, but what Stanford and a couple of other Unis are doing is studying how proteins in humans 'fold' or 'misfold' sorta like how they develop and why some develop into cancer or *insert disease here* cells.

Instead of Stanford Uni trying to fork out for a supercomputer, they took on the idea of 'distributed computing (donators)' and developed a program to let anyone help out research with their computers at home.

Sony has taken this to another level by porting this program to the mighty PS3! The research project's power has significantly increased since the PS3s have come online and will continue to increase as long as we keep signing on good ppl who dont mind donating a bit of computing power.

As much as i love building my team Aussie Rules Footy i'm really into the project much more and thats why i encourage ppl to either sign up to MyPS3 team, my team or start their own! Its great to see other ppl start out, and then enjoy the feeling of contributing and then spreading the word... its all just a for a good cause (dont worry, im no bloody happy clapper, just in it for the valuable research)

cheers guys, dont forget... Foldathon starts 1st July! plz finish atleast the work unit your on if you only participatin just for the Foldathon (otherwise your dollar or two u spent on power has been unfortunately useless, the research needs to be sent back to be helpful - thanks)

you should save some energy by turning off your computer when not in use (you're folding with your computer too?) because the PS3 can fold at least 10x faster and more efficient than computers.
