Yakuza 3 Sells Big In Japan, Gives PS3 A Massive Sales Boost

Being one of the highest profile series in Japan currently it comes as no surprise that Ryu Ga Gotoku 3, or Yakuza 3 in the west, would come out of the gates charging. brawling its way to number one on this weeks Japanese software charts, Yakuza 3 managed to sell an impressive 370,000 copies. Making it the second fastest selling PS3 tile ever in Japan.

Its success in Japan has also contributed to the PS3 being the number one selling console for the week ending on the 1st of march. Next week's figures will show if Sony can keep up this momentum with the release of Resident Evil 5 in Japan.

Its good to see that the PS3 isn't doing poorly in Japan any more.

I think this plus Killzone 2 in the West could really give the PS3 some much needed sales momentum.

well its not at the moment, but if it dose really well in Japan we might see it released here.

Or if sony wants to put up the money to release it in the west.

Surely you'd expect this to come to the Western worlds, after all, they did release Part 2 on the PS2 late last year! Although it took awhile, it probably didn't even make a dent on the market...so, they only have more to gain than not. I sure hope they do.

Great to hear that news I heard bout it selling around 300,000 it's great it's alot more. 11,000 360's sold after SO4 launch lol, Square/triace's choice not to at least multiplat seems to have been a bad one. lol @ kotaku thinking 162,000 is really good numbers (compared to yakuza 3 and WKC) and 17,000 sold 2nd week not very good legs hope Yakuza 3 has good legs and keeps selling.

Yakuza 2 on ps2 made it to the west with subtitles (no dub), so unless sega don't like money there is a good chance we will be playing this game before christmas.

Unless sega feel the western market couldn't had a 'subs only' ps3 game then we are probably f**ked.

Never played yakuza 2 but I here the series is sand box and pretty much a japanese version of gta, so it would likely get my money.

LoL. I have both Yakuza 1 & 2 in my hands right now (sealed, never played it before either). On the back of Yakuza case it tells you the voice actors used for the game including the likes of Michael Madsen Reservoir Dogs), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Eliza Duska (Buffy fame), Rachael Leigh Cook (teen movies) and young Luke Skywalker himself!!

So they bothered to put some talents on the first of the trilogy, then they kinda rush the 2nd and just placed English subs on it! It's no wonder the 2nd didn't go off when it was released here late last year!

I say the if they do a rush job to bring out Yakuza 3 to the Western worlds, then it may not fair as well as it deserves. But if they actually do something right now and translate it into English (voice and text), it would prolly do pretty darn well. I'm not asking for celebrities to act out the voices, but it sure would be a nice touch! Look at GTAIV, Niko had a really great relatively unknown voice actor for him!

The reason they didn't bother doing an english dub for Yakuza 2. Is that they spent a tonne of money getting well known actors to voice the characters of number 1 and the game absloutly bombed in the west. So they just put out a limited english sub release of Yakuza 2 for the fans.

So if Yakuza 3 continues to do well in Japan and they make enough money off it there, they may consider doing an English dub for it.

It wouldn't be ideal for me to play this in just English-dub. I don't mind if they don't use well known actors so long as it's done very well and convincingly by who-ever they use to dub the language. It really doesn't bother me, I just want this out to the western world. I mean Sega have put out some crappy games that absolutely bombs....and this is already pretty much a success in Japan, it would hurt to put this out with English for the Western worlds! Grrrrr....Yakuza!

Great, now that it's a complete success in Japan, the 'fans' will get a treat! But what about the rest of the world? We just want to be treated fairly and let us have the game as well

Yakuza 3 Ships More Than 500,000 Copies in Japan; Yakuza Series Ships 3.2 Million Globally


Sega announced today that Yakuza 3 has shipped more than 500,000 copies in just 3 weeks in Japan, and the Yakuza series has shipped 3.2 million copies globally.

They also have various plans to thank the fans of the series.
