Ever wondered what a Grand Theft Auto movie would be like? Well, it could very well have been a possibility last spring, with one of Hollywood’s six major film studios prepared to develop a GTA film.

According to Variety's Cut Scene blog, a GTA flick was practically a done deal and Rockstar had given the go ahead for the film. Variety also claims that rap star Eminem was also being lined up to star as the main character.

The blog reads: "Then at the last minute it all fell apart. I'm told Take 2 couldn't finalize terms with the studio, though I'm not sure if it was a purely financial issue or if, in the end, the publisher got cold feet about giving away rights to its baby."

While the concept of a possible GTA film would make most gamers pants a little wet, it’s probably a blessing in disguise considering the level of quality a vast majority of game-movie adaptions have.

Perhaps if GTA IV sales go through the roof and blow Rockstar away, which we think they will, they might reconsider and a blockbuster film will be back on the agenda.
