News \ EA likely to take over WWE game duties

It seems the WWE are undergoing a few changes as of late on the marketing side of things.
Having recently spent millions upgrading their shows and pay-per views to broadcast in High Defintion, and deciding to changing their action figure production from Jakks to Hasbro in 2010, it looks like change is on the way for the WWE gaming world as well.
The WWE's contract with THQ finishes up in 2010, and there have been talks that they too will be dropped in favour of another developer. Word is that EA is very interested in taking up the WWE game license and are likely to put a bid in for it when the time comes.
With TNA to release their own game this year (TNA Impact!) The Smackdown vs RAW series looks set to finally have some competition.
Fans have long said that the SvR series has become repetitive and stale, with each iteration virtually mirroring the preceding one. So finally with some healthy competition and talks of a new developer, innovation and quality may again be words associated with wrestling games once again.

IMO that's a narrow minded view, yes most matches are pre-planned (although not to the extent people think, some only have one or 2 moves organised, and sometimes not even the result), storylines worked out months in advance (people do like to have an idea of where their career is headed) and there is the occasional razor blade in use (I know how to bust someone open as easy as pie with two simple hits) or stomping of the foot.
But the WWE is sports entertainment, it's not meant to be a 'real' sport, its a piece of fiction put together by some of the best athletes in the world to entertain people.
That said the rate of injury and risk in pro-wrestling is one of the highest in all forms of sport which is something people often misunderstand. Everyone always thinks "oh he knows how to fall" often yes, they do, but that only reduces the pain from moves, it doesn't eliminate it.
I apologise for the rant, I'm not having a go at you Skua, I just get a bit miffed when people always say how 'fake' wrestling is.
I think if EA got a hold of the license it could only mean good things for the games. I'm personally sick of the name Smackdown vs RAW (especially now since ECW is around its kinda redundant) and the reuse of commentary and animation over and over again.
So true, and hopefully EA can shake up the licence as the smackdown vs raw series is getting stale.
