I'm kinda in the same boat as you I had a 60gb, that broke, they fixed/gave me a refurbished model under warranty then that broke the other day, out of warranty! 315 to fix means no sony for me

Yeah that really is ridiculous. $315 is a rip-off, especially considering you paid $700+ for the bloody console to begin with. If mine ever dies I will see if Sony would be willing to fix it for a reasonable price otherwise I'll just take it to an electronic servicing center and see what someone local can do to fix it. Lets face it, what have you got to lose?

Not always, but it is REALLY annoying after waiting Hours, then only to hav to RE-Download all over again....!!!!!!

Replacing the laser wouldnt be all that hard to do yourself...and much much chepaer. I think the cost of a new laser is around the 150 mark.
