Same as well. I posted a news article on MyDS once and never again because i had to re-write the article.

We have had this no copy policy on MyDS for months now, we wanted the site to start having original content, but now it's official.

How would you guys feel if you wrote a review and someone from another site just copied and pasted it, and all you get as recognition is a little hyper link at the bottom of the article, I don't know about you guys but I would be pretty pissed that my work has ventured across to another site without my permission.
How hard is it show others the same courtesy, rewrite the article into your own words, if you want you can a little further and get more information from multiple sources and improve the article even more.
I wouldn't be sooking about having to do more work, I would be using this opportunity to show of my writing and reporting skills and who knows you might get noticed for it.
No one will be impressed by a person that has a creative limit of Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V anyone can do that.

Personally I would be happy, because someone liked my review so much that they didn't want to re-write it and secondly they even linked it to my review to proove I wrote it! You do have a good point their at the bottom, but Admins checking to see if a persons news is copyright is just time wasting, which could be going to a new site design or improving the site. Checking copyright is also a waste of the admin who is checking's Bandwidth!

I personally dont see a problem with copying and pasting, sure its not news in your words but its still news, as long as you have an official source or link from where you got it from i dont really see what the hassle is. Just my two cents

We have received a few complaints from sites where the article has been copied. You may not see a problem, but imagine if someone was copying your article that you put the time and effort into writing?

It is. Once you write something, it automatically comes under copyright law unless otherwise stated. Even if you write a 100 word short-story that you never show anyone, it belongs to you and no one else can use it without your permission. Even if we source it, unless we have their direct permission it is a breach of copyright. I can promise that no site will allow another site to copy an article. I know we wouldn't. They can re-word and source us as the source of information and we can do the same for other sites. No ifs, no buts.

I can see what you mean by the complaints, but if thats a worry why not simply ask for permission to use the link or the info from the person who created it? Like we do with the walkthroughs/guides? Yes, it would annoy me if someone did that, but if someone emailed me to use it for their site i wouldnt mind. I think putting news in your own words is great, but i also think it would better if it was optional, just my two cents, want some change

okay, I don't study law but the single first thing that a uni student should worry about is referencing your sources. As far as I know, when a work is completed, it is automatically held under the copyright act. If you are to use the work then you must ackowledge the composer and the location of the work.

You guys may simply think that nothing can happen on the Internet if you copy and paste; think about it....it is a copyright infringement and the composer has rights to legally appeal - hence they can sue you.

So before you copy and paste a news story, remember to ackowledge the source.

That'll be pointless because by the time we got a response the news wouldn't be new anymore. Guides are different. They don't age and can always be used. Optional is not an option. Cut and paste is not acceptable. I don't have change for 2 cents. Give me a 5'er...

That's fine, WC Loc. After all, you already have permission from the original author. lol
Just be sure to explain that it is indeed yours in the article you submit.

I didn't think it was copyright if you put the link and author of the article in your post?

Edit- Didn't realise there were more pages, fair enough.
