Hey guys,
so does anyone actually have it installed and using it well?
i want to install it but i have a STD TV. There are a few tuts out there that show me how to install it on a STD but i really dont know how and its confusing. So Anyone who has it installed on a STD can you plz help me out
l'm hacing trouble finding this file called otheros.self
they said that i could find it somewhere at www.playstation.com/ps3-openplatform/
but there is no download for the file just another walk through

i heard that it only works on HDtvs or then after the installation the screen is just black lol...

Or you could run emulators, i just use my Wii for that though.

sony dont allow access to all of the cell cpu,s in particular the graphics side of things while runing different OS. I could be wrong but i think this would hamper efforts to run pc games.

Hi Richie,
Had YelllowDog running since it was released, Lunithy is right, there is a hypervisor which limits what you can do when running the OS.
However, yes if you did want to play with the game streaming technology, sure give it a go! Link: www.youtube.com/
Basically, the idea is its like a very low latency lan optimised remote desktop, which is designed to run the 3d apps on your PC, but stream input & output to your PS3 via linux.
Linux is also handy, if you want to mess around with EMU stuff, say MAME ? or maybe videolan, etc... and of course, linux

ok finnaly got linux running. but now need to know how to get wireless internet working. it says fail. and this si after i select ps3 wireless adapter thingy. then suggest to connect ethernet cord, but this is after selectine wireless connection. anyone help?

cool, is it the yellow dog distribution? yeah they haven't got the wifi module to work with linux yet so use an ethernet cord. 
Can u do something for me? can u install VLC or something and see if it plays .mkv files?

Uhhh i have WiFi working on my PS3 using YDL... it is working. Just depends on what version of YDL you downloaded. The latest build has support for it and this was july last year.
richie: Yes, you can use messenger but not MSN Messenger. You use either GAIM+, Pidgeon Messenger or any of the other widely available ones. A good one is Mercury which features webcam support.
Im actually about to install Quake 2 and the classic "Chaos" mod on my PS3 for a lil entertainment Can you belive i have an original Quake2 cd still lol.

Enabling WiFi using YDL...
Go to the "Run" command and type in "system-config-network", or bring up a terminal window and type that into the console... from there you will need to delete the existing connection as the PS3 sees both the Wireless & Wired ports as one. Also remove the network cable before doing any of this to avoid any problems. Now once you've deleted that connection from the list you click "New+" and select "Wireless" then click "Forward" then select "Sony PS3 Ethernet Device (eth0)".
Now click foward again, and where it has "auto" type in the EXACT name of your Wireless network, case sensitive. If your network has a password (which it should) type that in the bottom text window an click Forward again. This next screen is up to you, you can leave it DHCP (auto settings) or enter manual settings. Click "Forward" again and it will ask you to save it.
Now youve setup wireless you just need to select it in the main window and click "Activate"... then your done. Close that off and your wireless will work. Takes all up 20 seconds to do...

Quake was great fun! in multiplayer lan games, still have it as well NoRC just to good to throw away.did u ever use the WOD pack that was around yearsago? let us know how u go running Quake.

yes u can but u might need norc to help u there since u need to go into text mode only and is bit mroe difficult.

yea same thing i did with the other guide but the best one is 560i *ps3videmode -v38*
