It depends on your package (lowest or platinum) and whether your box will be a common one or the IQ one, and whether it will be just a single room or multi room.

But lowest is $37.95 per month

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Foxtel, worst f#&$*ing company i've ever dealt with. Be careful with this deal. Because after the first month, when you go back to the basic channels...well its kinda like getting all the free to air channels and then losing them all bar SBS. They are lousy to deal with, unless you want to throw more money at them. Then they're great. Also, theres a $300 early termination fee if you pull out before the 24 month period. And the "Special" offer seems to occur nearly every second month...

Tips: since it's free bill for the first month, you can go platinum package and decide if you want to downgrade to a cheaper package or stay with it for the second month and on.

Go platinum first to see what package is best for you...

The normal box is normal one.

But with IQ box, you can pause/ stop/ rewind/ forward shows even when it's live, you can record (60 hr space). Obviously IQ box is more expensive than the normal one.

---

The $37.95 is the "Get Started" package, you get CNN, FOX8, TV1, FOX Classics, National Geographic, V, Lifestyle, Discovery, Weather Channel, etc (about 28-30 channels)

Additional packages... there's:
- "My Sport" (7 channels) - foxsports1, 2, 3, espn, fuel, etc
- "My Movie Network" (5 channels) - movies
- "My Showtime" (5 channels) - movies
- "My Escape" (8 channels) - foods, entertainment, comedy, etc
- "My Playtime" - animal, mtv, v, disney, etc
- "My World" - animal, crime investigation, bio, travel, science, etc

---

So with Platinum Package, you get everything... so by the end of your first free month, you should have an idea whether you want to stick to the Platinum or downgrade to a cheaper package... since you're paying from the second month on.

You will be able to do this over the phone... do anything over the phone.

i got a call from a foxtel rep the other day and was offered this package except it was only for 12 months contract. and to answer your question blackjakil, they will transfer the connection to your new place for no charge (that's what he told me. i'm also renting and asked this question).

Well the only thing you MUST consider is this is a 24 month plan contract, if you try to break out of this then you'll have to pay $300 if im not mistaken.

But if you're sure you're gonna watch foxtel for the next 24 months, then this is great.

see also Select tv. they have good deals. not so many channels though. i had foxtel 4 years ago. our account had a virus. our box was dialing out all the time to a number no one could tell who it belonged to.(it was not ringing foxtel like it should.) we had platinum. our free movies not showing on bill. then foxtel want to charge us for them. foxtel phone service is bad when you have problems. they make things up as they go along!

I have Austar, it's pretty much the same, just a different coloured bill. If you are going to get pay tv put on, haggle with them. You can and will be able to get a better deal. Always ask for extra stuff for a month for free. See how you go. Be prepared for them to say no. It is always worth a try. Haggle, haggle, haggle!
"I'll give you 2 for it."
"Two for that? You must be mad?"

You need Foxtel if you enjoy watching the same episode of a show repeated 6-8 times or watching a TV series that appeared of free to air 3 years ago

I am thinking of getting PayTv hooked up to my new house but was leaning towards Austar. I only want it for the NRL (Foxsports) so I just need the basic package plus the sports. I think Austar is cheaper by a few bucks. Anyone recommend Austar over Foxtel?

whatever you do make sure you call them up and say 24 months is too long, they should offer you a 12 month contract which is reasonable.

i wouldn't sign up unless you love sports (esp, AFL, futball, and gridiron)
