me, my friends from school have it (10 of us) my friends out of school have it, and we at AUF all have it. it cant be the game, it must be the software on the ps3

I dont have the game but I tend to agree with skua, how many copies has COD4 sold for the PS3 ? How many consoles have become faulty while playing COD4 ? It wouldnt be no where near the amount of copies sold, under 0.01% (1 in every 10,000). Has to be a issue with the consoles, not the game.

Its not the game that wrecks it, its because the person plays it WAY too much.

rofl, its only a bloody coincidence tools, probably cos about 50% of ps3 owners would be playing that game right now....

i was playing cod when my system broke down. was playing the games as normal..sound stopped completely..went to quit the game and exit the disc. Put the disc back in..the fkr wouldn't read!! I reckon it could be how the data of the game is spanned on the disc. Maybe the CDROM has to work hard to continuously read data when the games being played. I know for a fact that Splinter Cell: Double agent on Wii has this problem.. the game has lag issues and you can hear the noise of the drive when its reading the disc while playing. I think the fact that i had my console upright also stressed out the CDROMs workload. I mean im no expert..but this is what ive noticed.
In regards to my ps3 lemme just say that the sony support centre needs working. I sent my console on Jan18th and i still haven't got it. The claim to have 'misplaced' my console then found it 2 weeks later. They say itl come round the 20th-26th of March.. i aint holding my breath!!!

My PS3 bricked it with COD4....
Its not the game but it is the game... simply put the system goes under stress when your gaming. If your system has the slightest flaw it will soon become exposed. It only takes the right bit of code at the wrong time to break something.
Those saying there is no way 100% its COD4 obviously know nothing about electronics.
Games can brick consoles... but the console must have a fault to begin with.

It does not break the console, it breaks the disc drive.
I believe it makes the blu ray lens work extra hard and can damage some of the PS3 disc drives.
It does not brick the console, it bricks the disc drive only. A game cannot brick a console, but it certainly can brick a disc drive.

i agree with monkychees. most. played. game.
Hrmr, I have finished cod4 single player twice and have been playing it heaps online, not a single glitch or freeze encountered!
Mind you, I have heard similar claims with a number of games... assassins creed, nfs:pro street, cod4 and oblivion to name but a few... all the consoles that failed were 40gb consoles (both eur and aus). Maybe it has something to do with the 40gb ps3s??? I never hear the "loud" fan noise or disc drive noise from my ps3, on any game... and to add, I have now tested/played/finished close to 30 bluray titles and over 27 psn games (both full and demo) with not a single issue... weird...

Yeah I've never had my ps3 buzz loudly or have errors reading any game. Fifa 08 used to freeze, well get stuck but still moving image and sound, and Assasin's Creed certainly froze in the true sense of the word, but both developers brought out patches to fix the problem.
I have a 60gb (Now 250gb) and haven't had even the slightest issue with COD4 and I reckon I've played that game more than any over the life of my console.

Personally.. I'm going to ENSURE that if my PS3 is going to pack it in sumtime.. it'd better be within the 12 month warranty period!
I do this by using Folding@Home... hmm it has nothing to do with the fact that a certain application or game will break your console.. its about putting it under a high amount of stress continuously to expose faults. Atleast for the CELL that is (folding doesn't really use the GPU as much as a game does)
I figure that if Sony have tested the stability of their console by using Folding@Home.. then i will use the application as much as possible within the first 12mths warranty period to hopefully ensure that if my consoles gunna pack it in.. hopefully it will under warranty! haha ohh and to help Stanford with their great protein research project! haha
