Yeah stay away from LG
Why? should he get a kogan?
No. I wouldn't buy any LG products period. They were once called General Electric before the name change. They buy cheap parts, which makes it unreliable. I believe, you get what you pay for

actually i bought the LG product after a very careful consideration, research and experience ( normal consumer not professional).
As a matter of fact most of major electrical appliances in my house are LG brand. I have bad experience with Samsung, Panasonic doesn't appeal me and Sony ... well everything is overprice.
European brand ...too expensive and and very short warranty.
I do not touch cheap China brand (no offense). Eventhough, i know regardless whether it is Korean, Japanese or where ever.......... they all "Made In China".
I usually ask for extended warranty except for computer, because you know after 1 year it is obsolete already and you are sick of it and trying to find a reason to buy a new one.
So far LG has serve me well .........the price is competitive, they look good ....

Extended warranty's are a joke. (stick to the term) If its gonna break down it will before 12 months anyway. Don't fall into the trap by the sales guy asking you would you like to pay this amount for it. You know its commission in their pockets

i agree with you stonecold ... i normally do not check the box for extended warranty.
Just in the last 1-2 years, when all the electrical appliances in my house are "super-size" , super big and super heavy. (I got kids so everything is MEGA SIZE), I tend to tick that box for convenience if something goes wrong. It's just difficult to get it ship and fix myself), its like 'insurance" and for my peace of mind.
After upgrading fridge, washing machine etc... at the same store, I got "special price" for extended warranty ( how far the truth of the "special" they claim.... god knows
ha ha ha). Anyway, i did make price comparison with different store (Retravision and Good Guys) to make sure i ve got a good bargain. So far this Harvey Norman store has not let me down.
Anyway .... I m willing to pay extra 200-300 buck for 5-7 years warranty rather than standard 1-2 year warranty.

zyxses said:Remember very few games are 1080p (most recent games are less than 720p) think about the details lost filling in an extra 400 pixels compared to 130!?
All PS3 games are minimum 720p. none are less some are more.
There is far more than 130 pixels differences...
1280x720 = 921600
1920x1080 = 2073600
there is more than million pixels extra in 1080p over 720p!
zyxses said: The PS3 looks great on my 50" plasma...no I dont get burn in! Bigger is better and I can testify from 2.5 metres a 768 screen displays SD better than a 1080p screen.
Depending on the quality of the tv's (or av receivers) scaler & de-interlacer, will thus effect the the quality of sd on a full hd display. I have a brand new latest gen 50" full hd plasma with said high quality scalers & de-interlacers & there is no comparison with my 18mth old 42 lcd at 768p. Properly scaled sd to 1080 on a full hd display could never be matched by 768p.

I am quite aware that a almost all ps3 games are rendered internally by the games engine at a lower actual resolution than the display output & then upscaled in the frame buffer by the ps3, this is done for performance reason as scaling requires far less cpu power than rendering at a higher resolution. It is still being displayed at a minimum resolution of 720p on your television though regardless of the internal rendering resolution .
As there are games that support 1080p & more importantly (at least for me) Blu Ray movies are 1080p, a 1080p screen allows me to see the full glory of movies & enjoy an extra million or so pixels in GT5 prologue...
