Assassin's Creed Review - 9/10
Several years ago Ubisoft Montreal, the developers behind the "Rainbow Six", and "Prince of Persia" franchises, had been announced to be working on an all-new title which would soon gain massive anticipation, then under the working title of 'Project Assassins', and exclusive for Sony's PlayStation 3 console [However, later announced for Microsoft's XBOX 360, and PC, and retitled "Assassin's Creed"].
It had received huge anticipation, for its interactive, and free-roaming environments, and also the fact that it was under the control of 'the' Jade Raymond.
While its arrival was nearing, it had been confirmed that this glory of a game had been delayed for Australia, and wouldn't release until the following week, and as anticipation grew more and more, hopes were slowly being lost with few disappointing scores from certain gaming sites.
However, does Assassin's Creed proves worthy of the next-generation of consoles?
Assassin's Creed is set in the year 1191, during the Third Crusades, where players will take the role of Altair, who is apart of the Hashshashin organization, and works as an assassin who is sent on a mission to kill the nine historical figures who are propagating the crusades, and as the story progresses, their secrets are revealed, and an ancient conspiracy is unveiled.
[7.0] Audio
Whilst the soundtrack is excellent, with an epic feel to the music during some 'chase' sequences, and decent dialogue, the voice-acting isn't all that great, lacking enthusiasm, and becomes too boring to listen to at some times.
[9.0] Visuals
Ubisoft's latest features excellent, and beautifully-detailed environments, and scenery, with great character-animations, as well as the hundreds of citizens which populate the cities, who react in different ways to Altair's actions, though, suffers from minor framerate, and occasional screen-tearing issues, as well as random freezing during gameplay, however, these problems have since been resolved with a previously released patch, now available for download.
[9.0] Gameplay
Assassin's Creed has some of the most amazing, and entertaining gameplay, and is probably, and most-likely to others aswell, the best innovation of the game, with the interactive, and largely free-roaming environments, and whilst completing specific assassinations, quests, and side-missions, allows you to explore three historically-accurate locations of Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus, as well as Kingdom, and Masayaf, at your own leisure.
The combat-system is excellent, and, however, does become repetitive at times.
[8.0] Lifespan
While the story can be completed in around twelve hours or so, there is no need to rush through. It gives you the options to complete missions at your own pace, giving you time to explore the lands at your own leisure, and discover different things.
"Assassin's Creed"
[9.0] Overall
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed lives up to the high-anticipation it received from almost three years ago, satisfying fans, and giving them one of the most exciting games of the year, and while its combat-system is a little repetitive, the interactive, open-environments offer much more gameplay and entertainment, with fantastic visuals [which were, or still are for some, suffering from issues], and an intriguing storyline, but is is brought down by its poor technical performance.
