by the way will it open up as windows and all that cuz im getting rid of my computer and using my ps3 as one , could i use msn on it and will it be like an actual computer and use vista or xp on it ?

Linux already is out, its been around for years and years. There just isnt a PS3 version of it yet.

I'd still probably keep a PC though, as most future PC games; and when i say future i mean the next few months, will not be optimised for the ps3 and will need much better hardware ti run decently.

Yes there is a version of Linux speciffically for the PS3, developed in conjunction with SONY, it is called Yellow Dog Linux - I have it on my PS3.

It is alot more complicated to use compared to Windows, but is also more flexible. I believe you can get certain PC games to run on but with great difficulty. It uses a different acrhitecture to windows so that is why only certain programs will work on it.

It does however come with firefox as standard so you could use Ebuddy.com if you wanted to.

Yellow dog linux for PS3 will not run any program designed for windows, except a few that can be emulated etc with difficulty - i havent tried this only heard it from other people. When you do install some thing it usually involves having to write out a whole lot of code.

Linux for PS3 does come with "open office" which has word, excel etc like MS office, but it is more reliable.

Have a read of their website, or look on some linux forums, as it really take someone with a bit more expertise than I have to explain it.

Download it from the terrasoft website (or one of the available mirror sites), burn it to DVD or put it on a memory card and follow the instructions on how to install it to PS3.

I would recommend keeping your old PC until you have tried it. Windows and Linux are very different to each other, but both have advantages & disavantages over what each can do.
