We have a team thread for MyPS3 AU Folding@Home team - www.myps3.com.au/
fah-web.stanford.edu/
Please check the above link & you will see that out of over 4 million PS3s that have been sold to date, only ~280,000 have ever participated in the worthy medical research project - Folding@Home. Thats a LOT of untapped potential!

I'm trying to drum-up a bit of friendly competition, get your PS3s folding, using team no. 60766, & join in the team thread posted up top, & we can all help out Stanford University in their efforts to cure sum diseases!

The reason i need to ask for more support is although ~280,000 PS3 users that have ever folded is quite a decent number.. only ~38,000 of those are 'active' participants.. (Your active if you return a work unit atleast once every 5 days).
I know that a lot of people would like to keep their power bill down, so i think that if as much of us as possible do maybe 1, or 2, even 3 work units a week, we can share the load a bit, keep our power bills down (still wouldn't be much higher anyways) & know that we're helping out a very worthy project in need of more processing power. Some people will choose to leave their PS3s on 24/7 to fold.. but not everyone has to do this, & certainly not expected to do so.

If we build the MyPS3 AU team, then maybe it can become a top 100 folding team! A lot of PS3 News sites have built VERY competitive teams in just a couple of months, outgunning teams that have been involved for several years!

Folding@Home has already been pushed to the record Petaflop mark for computing power because of ~40,000 active PS3s involvement.. imagine what we could achieve if over 200,000 were active!

Theres no greater incentive for me or any other folder than to just be helping out in a vital medical field such as Protein Folding.. but if we did have a large team built up, maybe we could have competitions etc. with sum prizes, incentives, who knows.

Thanks very much, i hope to see a lot more MyPS3 AU team members soon!

Cheers

It's simple Bones, hook your PS3 up to the internet and you will need firmware 1.6 or higher if you don't have it. If you need it under the system options choose system update.

Now head into Network (I think) it's under the same heading as the PS store.

Then that's it, go into folding at home and it'll do its thing.
You can't play games or anything while its folding, it'll stop the program.

I just slipped into the top 10 yay!

I signed up for Folding but am one of those 'non active' users. I rarely use it because I am unsure of how much downloading it does / unit time. For example, i'm on cable but only have a 20G limit. So how big are these packages that we download from Folding?..that way i can schedule some time at the end of each month to do it

I can tell you now, it hardly uses any downloads at all. There's no exact number, but the download takes less than 2 seconds, the upload less than 10 seconds so I'm guessing you'd use about 1-3mb per WU, both uploading and downloading.

Good to see our active folders going up!

go here - fah-web.stanford.edu/ on the computer but u should be able to hit triangle & go to info, then find team stats using ur PS3.

The team really appreciates any members joining, whether they fold regularly or once a fortnight, whatever! Cheers

Good try mate. lol. If someone is rich and generous enough you might be lucky.

and Savioura, You can run F@H no worries, you wont even noticed the download amount, its not very much at all really.
KEEP FOLDING i only fold maybe 4 WU's a week sometimes more sometimes less depends on how much i'm playing games or not @ home

hmmmm, F@H keeps starting my WU's over????
I started a WU last night and had 3 hrs to go which i was going to do today but when i open F@H program it started over. and its not the first time its done it.

I know i haven't finished ALL my WU's in time, but i dont know why its starting over so quickly??
Originally i could spread out 1 WU over 2 days but they dissapear within 24 hours now.

Has there been an update or something, that now only gives us 24 hrs to complete??? Any ideas SmASHer ??

Has your net been slowed and is this on your PC or PS3?

Sorry just realized you mean on the PS3.
I'd check the team stats to see if you have completed the WU, i've never seen them just disappear like that...

fah-web.stanford.edu/
the above link is the 'Project Summary' page which describes how long u have to return a particular work unit noted with 'Final deadline (days)'. It appears that some of the newer work units have shorter deadlines, some barely over a day. Most are 3-4 days.. Are you running in 'Advanced' mode (since ver. 1.2)?

I know its a bit sucky about some of the new deadlines, but hopefully future updates allow ppl to just download one work unit, & finish it, & then manually request another work unit if they can complete it in time. The original intention of the PS3 version was that folders would just leave the PS3 on for 8hrs straight either during the day or overnight & that would usually ensure that a work unit was returned in time. I'm gunna post forum.folding-community.org/ on the forum the need for more info about deadlines for PS3 folders with possible updates including a countdown timer until a work unit needs to be returned etc.

Keep folding guys - doing great

thanks smASHer, its NOT in advanced mode ATM,
I think i'll just try to complete the WU's within 24 hrs to be sure, but i'll just have to keep a closer eye on the day and/ or time left to complete...
SmASHer, Are you in myps3's folding team 60766 under a different name or r u in a different team? ???
coz i cant see you in the team stats (60766)

lol unfortunately i made up my own team | Aussie Rules Footy | Team 52735 | fah-web.stanford.edu/ as smASHer88... before the MyPS3 AU team existed. So i'm actually not apart of the MyPS3 AU folding team, but as you know, a very big supporter of the whole Folding@Home project, including all teams etc. I just simply post these threads to get more members for you guys instead of trying to 'poach' PS3 folders.

I beleive though that MyPS3 AU can be a top 500, if not top 200 folding team given enough members join in. Its friendly competition & gets people talking about the project.. Unfortunately 'charity' does not draw enough attention, so i try and bring it the surface a little more with Folding@Home. I had heard of the SETI@Home before (searching for E.T.), but thought its better to crunch data for Cancer research.

Cheers
