its a great blu ray player but you might want to get the blu ray remote if you dont want to use the controler. but the Aus ps3 will only play Aus region(region 4) DVD's

Region 4 locking is a bit of a nuisance, but most of mine are region free or R4. And like snickersma said, you can always decrypt them. A bit painful, but might be worthwhile.

yes I'd say the ps3 does a pretty good job with upscaling. You'll see a huge difference between normal DVD and upscaled DVD

Ok back to serious Justin, the dvd play back on the ps3 is absolutely incredible and its one of the many reasons that i bought it.

Well, to be honest - yes.

I haven't had a chance to play DVDs on my PS3, but I don't think it would look any different because it's a crappy tv it's hooked up too.

Can't all afford to get something really great.

Yeah, unfortunately in the region all my PS2 games are (eg, PAL) the PS3s had cruddy PS2 software emulation. And you can't even get that anymore...
