Thats good news then. Does it play DVD-R's fine? even the cheap dvd-r's.

It doesnt do anything to normal dvd's hey, like it doesnt make them look a bit better?

The blu-ray player seen in the PS3 is identical in picture and sound quality to a stand alone Blu-ray player. Load times are long but thats the feature of the format. It doesn't upscale DVDs to HD. No problems so far

Bought X-Men 3 on blueray plays fine, although I don't notice a great deal of difference between DVD and Blueray on my 40" LCD TV (HDMI). IMO PS3 is a good deal for playing blueray movies, Sony say they are selling the consoles at a loss. I use the game controller to play movies fine. BIGW sells blueray movies cheap to if you are looking for them. yea ps2 drive was poor.

The thing is, the reason image size must increase ie:

VHS -> DVD -> HD-DVD -> BluRay

Is becase TV's are getting bigger an bigger... Just like computer monitors. So you need a higher resolution picture to keep the image crisp. Just remember a 320x200 pixel image looks crap when zoomed to fill a 19" monitor thats running native 1280x720... but a 1280x720 image viewed at 1:1 on that same monitor looks amazing.

Our TV was a 80cm Teac, and the jump from VHS -> DVD was outstanding. Movies, the clarity was sensational. But when we purchased a projecter, now that same movie was being stretched to fill 360cm screen.

Altho we have to work out wtf to do with our library of 400 DVD's. I think we'll just end up only replacing the ones we watch regularly with BluRay versions when they become available. DVD is still watchable and is good quality.. But BluRay does put the smackdown on DVD image.

del why didnt you notice much difference. I have seen blueray going but never side by side with a normal dvd which I would love to see (Same movie tho)

Movies at Big Range from 25 dollars to 38 dollars. Alot of them are old movies on blue ray format. Also I want to hire out Xmen on DVD so i can get a comparison DVD vs BlueRay.
